Moving to Bristol areas to rent

Hello we will be moving to Bristol at the begining of the year we are a family of 5 and my husband will be working in Aztech west. I have been looking for rental properties on zoopla and right move, but many decent houses come up! Is this because not all houses are on the net and I should contact an agent or because there is not a big supply?
Can you also advise on areas to look for. I like period properties, tree lined streets, ability to walk to places yet having a house with a garden. We are looking for 4 bedrooms properties in safe areas.
If you could choose where to live and money wasn't a problem where would you live?

The train from Portishead will apparently be operational from 2019!

I start work at 08:00 so leave at 07:30. I didn't think that was particularly early.

The train won't go to Aztec west though!

You could live South Bristol and your husband could if he wanted get the train ( and take his bike) to parkway station and cycle from there iit's only one or two stops and take 5 -10 mins

South Bristol you have
Southville , Ashton. , Totterdown ( near Victoria park / bedminster is nice )
Lower knowle so Wells Rd Totterdown end Brislington ( plus houses are way cheaper )
Added bonus if you work in central Bristol its walkable for you 15 -20 mins

Going further afield you have Warmly Bitton Keysham but this is a bit more countryside but you have the ring rd so reasonably easy to get to Aztec. West ( this is South Gloucestershire I think )

Personally I would stick with bishopston / Gloucester rd area. or if I wanted a village feel go to frenchy / Stapleton even Eastville Park is nice if you get the right Street
We used to overlook the rugby pitch and Eastville park and had amazing views but literally seconds from the M32 /Tescos but you wouldn't know it

Or I would go to thornbury, or almondsbury for a short commute

Yes my dh would be happy to use his bike, but so people still rides when it rains? Hippychick are you saying that the 'souther' areas are better connected via public transport to aztech west than the northen areas, although closer? Because sounds like using public transport would be quicker?

No south bristol isn't well connected via public tranport to Aztec west, would have to cycle to train station get train to bristol parkway then cycle to Aztec west. This is definitely not a straightforward journey! North bristol or thorn bury or one of the villages there would be better.

Also you won't be very Convenient for Private schools in eastville or brislington and are unlikely to find many of the families from those schools living there.

Ah ok I must have misunderstood. What kind of demographic would Thorbury have? Would there be lots of things for kids to do and restaurants to go to?
