Charlotte, I think you should defiently give living in Australia a chance and see what it is like to live there. Most brits love it.
I see things a bit differently though. I am Australian born and bred but I have spent most of my adult life in the UK. I grew up in smallish NSW town called Newcastle ( 160km north of Sydney) If you have ever seen the movie 'muriels Wedding' think Porpoise Spit and you might have an idea what its like. True I had a great lifestyle as a child, lived 10mins drive from Beaches and Lakes, but as soon as I hit my teens I wanted out. There was nothing to do there either, and if you crave a bit of culture, museums, galleries etc it was completly absent. Teenagers will get into trouble anywhere know matter how much you give them to do, if they cant access the facilties because finacl cost these teenagers are the ones at risk i think. I also think that there are more oppurtunities here in terms of work and career here. Britian is a wealthier country there are just more of a choice in terms of career. THat said we are still considering returning to Australia, one of the reasons is because of our family ties but also i think it is a friendlier place and that makes life more pleasent in general.

Yeah give a go, a fair go.

In response to the OP, the drought is a bit worrying isn't it?
