Getting a mortgage in NZ when you don't live there

Hello, just wondering if anyone has any advice on our situation, I haven't been able to find any info online.

I'm Kiwi, my DH is from the UK. We live in Asia. We have a decent deposit and are wanting to buy a home in NZ. We will let the home for three years and then move there, at which time my DH will apply for residency.

Has anyone got a mortgage in this situation? We've made enquiries but the banks we've contacted so far have been vague/slow to get back to us. I'm thinking this is a bad sign!

We didn't do it in the end, but it's entirely possible. Our bank was very helpful though, HSBC.

Thanks, but we've been turned down by every bank! Fingers crossed a broker might be able to help us.
