dh has a possible job offer in Australia (he is a quantity surveyor and apparently is in high demand over there). Would probably be in Melbourne but maybe in Sydney. He would like to consult MNetters in Oz about cost of living - is A$120k enough to live comfortably (mortgage on 3/4 bed house, run cars, hobbies for kids etc? Thanks in advance
Kate

on the health issue - we do not have health insurance and dd1 has a number of health needs with regards to her down syndrome - no problems with being referred and seen. SHe recieves excellent care on the equivalent of the NHS.

In fact - dh has recently been diagnosed with a heart condition/congenital heart defect that was not picked up in the UK depsite seeing docs about it. He also had years of back pain and finally got an answer from an aussie doc who did his immigration health check........

there is no way we would have the lifestyle we have here in the UK without both dh and I working and the dd's being in childcare - that is dh and I earnt good money in the UK - just expensive in the SOuth East where his work was.

We have a mortgage on our house, car loan on a car and still able to have dd1 do activities, have a social life and go on holidays without stressing the budget. We are redecorating etc and can afford to do that on one wage - a lot less than what your dh would be earning.

KateF - glad to see you got that variety of views I mentioned yesterday! Though I'm sure it all seems daunting to you now, the finding out is half the fun of living overseas so enjoy it! I look forward to hearing your posts about your experiences after you arrive.

Melbourne is a lovely part of Aus though it is now as expensive (or very close to being as expensive) as Sydney (sorry bloss have to agree to disagree here !!!

Thanks bloss . I did like the head when I met her. We will be going along for the interview soon, I'm looking forward to it. I was very impressed by the school and facilites. I'm going to try to get along to Kambala soon too.

Cori - I'm in Sydney.
