Grateful for any suggestions for summer holiday activities for DC aged 5 and 8. We are new to the area and will be living in schevingen (sp?). TIA!

There are many nice museums in the Hague, Delft en Leiden. In Leiden especially Naturalis is nice as it is very hands on like their current exposition on the senses. Archeon and Museon are also nice.

Beaches near Wassenaar, Katwijk, Noordwijk and of course Scheveningen are lovely when the weather is good.

Duinrell is a nice amusement park close by. The Efteling is also nice but a little further.

Alternatively get on bikes and go visit some windmills, find out how sluices work or take the train to Amsterdam (Nemo is nice).

Many local councils will organise den building during the last week of the Summer Holidays. Supervision can be poor though ans approach to health and safety very Dutch. There are not real Summer camps like in the UK, eg tennis camp, Stagecoach etc that I know of. If your kids don't have their swimming diplomas yet then the Summer Holidays may be a good time to start. We used Easy-swim, they teach in a pool in the Hague near the British school and dd got all three diplomas within a year, so well worth the money.

Ah fond memories!
I would add daytrips to Amsterdam'´s museums, the dutch riding school, klimpark forest & the keukenhof
The miniport world in amstedamse bos or a canal cruise?
Madurodam near rotterdam?
Enjoy!

Madurodam isn't in Rotterdam, it's in The Hague.
