Hi, title says it all really. DH works for an Australian company and has been trying to get transferred internally to the Adelaide area for a few months but in case that doesn't go through, can any one help me in how to apply for a visa and apply for jobs over there etc?

We are 31 years old. DH's profession is very sought after over there and is on their list of skilled migrant jobs. Anyway, we have been looking to relocate to Australia for about 6 years although we have talked about it since we were teenagers. We have 2 DS's, one age 6, one nearly 3. I don't want them to get too much older before we move or else I do worry about the effects upon them and leaving their friends. At the moment they are happy being wherever we are but I know that will change over the coming years and I don't want to disrupt them as they get older and have their own friends and lives.

Please can anyone help point us in the right direction as to the Visa process, expenses and what we actually need to do. There are so many websites about it but they all seem to be agents which I have been told we don't actually need. Am I better just paying an agent to do all the work? What website do I need to go onto to register our interest and see if we qualify for a Visa? Also, how far into the process would you start applying for jobs and looking at schools etc? Sorry, I know there is a lot of info there but I am feeling quite overwhelmed and been trawling the internet for months and still seem to be quite clueless. We just seem to be going round in circles.

Thank you to anyone who offers any tips, advice and can point us in the right direction.

Go to www.immi.gov.au./ This the official site for all things Australian for would-be immigrants.

For personal experiences with the system, try the PomsinOz forum. It's busy, well-informed, has many useful specialist sub-forums, and may be able to answer your questions about agents.

I can't answer for myself as DH's employer paid for an agent for us so we we're spread the ins and outs as well as the money.

Good luck.

Can you talk to a migration agent? Concept Australia should give you some free advice.

Posted too soon... Give you free advice whether you choose to employ them or not.

Thank you. We are so grateful. Will check out those websites now. Thanks again. Did anyone else feel really overwhelmed by it all? Now it's a real possibility we don't know where to start, there seems to be so much to do!

Have a look at pomsinoz.com. Loads of info there to sink your teeth into. Even has its own section for SA.

We lived in Perth for two years, to say I didn't like it was an understatement. But, I did like Melbourne, and my dh liked Adelaide.
