Thinking about a move to Aus or USA what to do first please

Obviously we need to find out if either country would accept us but any ideas how we go about that? US is our first choice and we would be interested in the East but don't know what to do now.

Just google 'emigrate australia' or 'emigrate usa' and loads of stuff will come up. British expats is a really good resource too and their discussion forums will answer most of your questions. Be warned though, it can be gloves off and there are some really negative people posting too.

My partner and I are looking to move to Canada and so I am mainly on the Canada related forums, but if I see you there (my ex-pat alter-ego is Sinope) I will give you a wave.
