Nannies in Singapore

Hi, We will be relocating to Singapore in the next few weeks and I will be looking for a nanny to look after my 3yo daughter. I am not very keen on the idea of live-in help as childcare, and would prefer to employ someone with relevant experience/qualifications. Both me and my husband will be working full time, so the nanny will be needed daily from the school pickup time until we return home (7ish) and on occasional evening/weekend bbsitting.

Our view is that our best option is to employ a Singaporean - if anyone has any information on the below it would be greatly appreciated.

This is quite difficult in Singapore. You could try Innovon (local nanny agency here) but the quals are unlikely to be what you've seen in the UK and all the nannies will be local Singaporean women (Chinese, Malay, Indian heritage). Expect to pay SGD 20 plus per hour, plus agency fees. If you've got the resources, I know a few expats who've managed to get visas for English/Australian nannies, but you will be paying an expat nanny salary (think whatever you would pay a nanny in the UK plus) and will need to house them as well (condition of the visa), provide medical insurance etc etc.
Finding suitable child care here keeps a lot of us awake at night - it is tough.

I lived in Singapore for 6 years until recently and had both my children there. I found a live out nanny through an agency called Nanny Pro. Our nanny was Filipina but was a permanent resident in Singapore, lived with her husband and teen kids. She would get to my flat just before I left for work and would leave when either my husband or I got home (so from 8am to 7pm usually). She also picked my eldest up from nursery (I'd drop him off on the way to work) and brought him home. Much preferred having her rather than a helper who lived in! We paid S$1500 a month when we had one child and increased it when we had DS2 though not by much as by then DS1 was in nursery.

Salty and Sweet - did your live out nanny have any formal child care qualifications? It seems easy enough to find live out helpers but not easy to find the English style of nanny who has formal child are qualifications. I haven't tried Nanny Pro but will take a look now.

Use occasional and permanent nannies!. when my husband and I moved abroad they very quickly helped my find a overseas nanny.

Your best bet is a listing by a relocating family trying to place their nanny.
There are singaporean nannies with excellent qualifications. They are usually trained in early years care with grown up children of their own.
Typical hours are 7:30 to 7pm.

And contact mother and child in tanglin mall. Its a popular group/place and can help circulate your C.V
