My best friend has just had her baby and i'm not there to sse them.

She had a fantastic natural water birth, whereas i'm in the country of medical intervention.

I miss community, popping to the shops, taking dd to the theatre, library, bookshop, parks in the daytime and even bloody Woolworths.

I watched a Sooty video this morning and it made me miss the English countryside, they were on a canal boat and everything looked so green.

Sorry wallow over, until I think of something else,

Lio · 31/07/2006 11:28

Oh poor you. My friends have moved as far afield as California and New Zealand to get away from me Do you need to hear bad things about living in the UK? Am sure I could think of something...

SherlockLGJ · 31/07/2006 11:29

Rain

MissChief · 31/07/2006 12:00

lived in spain before and IKWYM, can be hard work esp if you don't know any spanish people - surprisingly closed society underneath all the extrovert behaviour..
uk not so green now - sunscorched down in the SE but it's cloudy and about to rain - those horrible grey skies that I never missed when in Spain, does that help??

lucy5 · 31/07/2006 12:19

To be honest , i'm longing for rain and grey skies today but thanks all for trying.

Lucy, I'm in Italy have been for a year. The homesickness will pass. Try and think of something good about where you live. Are you visiting the UK soon?

SenoraPostrophe · 31/07/2006 18:16

Oh Lucy - you too?

I want to go home so my family can come and help with the new baby. and I want out of this flippin heat (at least, I want there to be the possibility that there'll be some rain or something before mid sep).

incidentally I know a team of indie midwives who do homebirths. i'd do it myself (don't like the intervention either) but dh is against. they're in granada so might be too far away but they might travel that far. or might know someone nearer to you. do you want the email? 700E so not cheap but poss worth it. alternatively do you have an assertive bilingual friend who can fight your corner at the hosp?

SenoraPostrophe · 31/07/2006 18:18

LGJ: if you think the thought of council tax would put us off you have obviously never seen a spanish income tax bill.

lucy5 · 31/07/2006 18:33

Thanks SP, I think the heat has done me in today. I hate to admit to the green eyed monster but was envious of my friend's water birth. She had her first baby here and had a hard time, so I'm glad she got a good one. I think i'll be ok at the hospital, just worrying because of my blood pressure that they will make me have a caesarean.

Have you got anyone coming over? I hope you are ok, not long now!

Marypop, thanks! I haven't been back to Uk properly since I've lived here [[nearly 3 years now} I went back for 2 nights for fil funeral but that was all consuming. I am preggers at the moment, so I won't be going back for a while.

OP posts:
MaryP0p1 · 31/07/2006 18:50

Is anyone coming out to see you? We can't seem to get rid of our visitors.

lucy5 · 31/07/2006 18:54

No, the first year is the worst, everyone came but it soon tails off. I already have my parents here, so I am lucky in that respect.

MaryP0p1 · 31/07/2006 20:13

Having your parents there is a bonus?

MaryP0p1 · 31/07/2006 20:23

Lucy just had a phone call from DH and am now very pissed. My DH grandmother has been in hospital for 3 weeks and nobody has thought to call us. MIL called on Sunday but couldn't get through (got answerphone but didn't leave message). She only rang because she was told to get her arse up to the hospital because there a very good chance she may die. Of all Jon's family Grandmother is the one who I have the most time for. AHHH

To top this all off DH is having phone/internet problems and finding it impossible to work so will probably be going back to the UK for the remainder of the Summer Holidays.

God I'm pissed. Do you feel any better?

lucy5 · 31/07/2006 21:30

Sorry to hear your news. You are out of the loop when you are away, my dh's father went missing and no-one told us for 3 days, by the time I got the news to dh, his father's body had been found.
I think the heat gets you pissed more quickly. The internet access thing here is just as bad, it drives me up the wall. I'm ok now, thanks for asking. just having a wobble about having a baby here. It can be a pain having my parents here but there are alot of positives too.

MaryP0p1 · 01/08/2006 14:13

Thats terrible about your dh's father. How awful for you. The internet things drive hime mad.

lucy5 · 01/08/2006 18:57

Any more news on your dh's gran?

OP posts:
MaryP0p1 · 02/08/2006 07:44

No, no news all. He tried to call his sister last night and she wouldn't take his call!

lucy5 · 02/08/2006 09:32
