Relocating family to barracks in Germany

After some advice please folks. DH has just (today!) been offered a job working for SSAFA in Germany - not sure which barracks, possibly Paderborn / Holne / Gutersloh.

We have 2 DDs who are 2yrs 3mths - will be roughly 2yrs 6mths when we move.

I literally know nothing about living there - only what I've researched on BFG.net this evening. We never expected him to get the job and we're also tangled up in a house sale and house purchase in the UK at the mo so my mind has been taken up with that.

Very excited to be going but freaking out with overwhelmed-ness of it all.

Anyone else living out there got any insider information on life in barracks with children? Any advice on the whole relocation process?

TIA!

Hi - ex Army wife here. My husband was based in Paders. To be honest the whole set up is very "Little Britain" with lots of support from the MOD. The houses are considerably better than UK housing as they are built to German standard and healthcare is all sorted for you. There are schools and crèches etc normally of a very good standard.

The main issue people had was not driving - you can be cut off if you don't haves car. It may be off your benefit to do the tax deal on a new car too if that is still around.

But to be honest you will get more relevant information if you post on the Forces Sweethearts section, as there will be some mums there living the life you are heading for - it's been a good few years out fi me now! Grin
