I saw a number of horrifying pictures of the NSW bushfires yesterday and the news here in Adelaide is full of awful reports of burnt out houses. I hope all the mumsnetters over there are safe (and also the non mners too). Thinking of you all x

Yes I was just thinking about them Crystal I hope they're ok.

CrystalDeCanter · 20/10/2013 08:27

Goodness it's set to get even worse!

200+ houses already lost and hot windy weather ahead.

We have friends over in the Blue Mountains - so far ok but must be so worrying.

It's nightmarish and not going to stop any time soon :(

If you donate to the Salvos (who I normally do NOT donate to) at Woolies, Woolies are dollar matching the donation.

Oh lordy....I am currently considering moving to Oz in a couple of years but if there is ONE thing that puts me off, it's this kind of thing. THe extreme weather is very worrying. Put next to the fact that in Adelaide EVRYONE drinks bottled water all the time...due to the quality of what's in the tap...it's a big issue.

CrystalDeCanter · 21/10/2013 03:43

Hi Jitney, I live near Adelaide and I drink tap water. It's not that bad.

Jitney would you live in the country? Towns are pretty safe but here in the Adelaide Hills it's really important to have a good bush fire plan in place - ie get out on the really dangerous days and stay in the city. It's pretty scary on the bad days - hot and windy.

I'm watching the news as well from up here in Brisbane. Looks awful, and supposed to be getting worse in the next few days. Hmm Thoughts and best wishes to all NSW residents. Stay safe.

LilBlondePessimist · 21/10/2013 04:46

The closest fire to us isnow 17km away, and all under control at present. We use an app to let us know where the fires are and how bad. It was scary at the end of last week, had to keep all windows and doors shut, eyes stinging and cars covered in ash as closest bad fire was only 5kms away, but much better now. Just keeping fingers crossed the winds stay down. Hmm

CrystalDeCanter · 21/10/2013 04:57

Oh goodness LilBlonde that sounds awful, what's the forecast re winds? Keeping fingers crossed for you from down here.

Stay safe Lilblonde. I'm from Ireland, living in Brisbane now so all this is new to me. Hope everything's ok

LilBlondePessimist · 21/10/2013 09:41

Hey there, sorry I got caught up with school run and all that follows! Lol. Unfortunately the forecast is very hot, dry and windy. Today was about 35 mostly, it's 19:40 and still 27, but fortunately the fires are still largely under control. Thank you for your kind wishes. Smile

ICameOnTheJitney · 21/10/2013 10:25

Crystal The Hills appeal to me a lot....so beautiful....but it does worry me and I think DH would rather be near the sea...I don't mind living in the country as long as I'm close to SOME shops....

LilBlonde thinking of you and yours and everyone who'se in the danger zone.x
