Schooling in New Zealand

Can somebody please help me???? I have been searching and searching the net for the folliwing information so here goes!!!
To visit New Zealand as a British Citizen I do not need a visa?? and would be allowed to stay for up to 6 months?
Am I correct in thinking my children could then attend schools for up to 3 months without a student visa?? and then continue if I got the correct visa?? This seems to be to easy as such in terms of just being able to send your children to school.
Does anyone know how it works and can tell me that I have completely misunderstood??
Thanks to snyone that replies......I am in a completely baffled state at the moment!!

Not an expert in this area at all, but that's my understanding too. Read here (on page 2) Visitor's Visa/Permit Guide. Check it with immigration though and/or the school.

Yes, that's correct in terms of getting a 6-month visa.

I'm not exactly sure about schooling, but I do know it is much easier to come this way and get your kids into school than go the other way (as I am learning).

I would recommend maybe getting in touch with The Ministry of Education and having them clarify the situation for you.

Okay just moved to new Zealand, got here on partnership visa. As far as I know you would have to pay international fees for schooling for those three months-that's the killer. My daughter's just done this for two terms , but now that I have a work permit she is on domestic fees and we can breathe again....

HI
Thanks for responses-Do you kind me asking catballou how much your school fees were???
And how much are they now she is on domestic fees??
I am going to email the MOE but it is always nicer to find out from someone that has 'lived' it!!!

Was just having a look at this on my daughter's school website, and it looks like you'd have to have a work visa, and your children a student visa for them to get free education, and they could attend up to 3 months as an international student. The ministry of education also has details on it www.minedu.govt.nz/NZEducation/EducationPolicies/Schools/PublicationsAndResources/Circulars/Circulars2011/Circular201101/AppendixC.aspx
Looked at the fees my daughter's primary school charges for international students and looks like they charge $10800.00 for a year's tuition, so presumably about $2700 (about £1400) for 3 months.
Hope this helps!
