hello! Just jumping on an old thread here and hoping you get notified? My husband and I and 5 and 3 year old are moving to KL in August, there is list to think about and it would be good to ask some pro's! Would you recommend just trying to find furnished property to rent and save the hassle of shipping? Or is unfurnished much cheaper? We will be on one teachers salary initially so we will have to to be fairly careful with what we spend. still confused about areas as well, we need to be near to MOnt Kiara for work. Thanks v much in advance for any help, if anyone ever gets this! X

Nice cheap car by any chance? :)

No cars are cheap here. You know that! I can't believe we paid the same for our Ploton as we would have paid for a Golf in the UK.

I know, it's grim. We have some friends looking for a car though if it's a reasonable price?

Also we're moving if you're trying to get rid of any furniture?

We bought a secondhand rustbucket for the first two years. I was scared in case it broke down, tbh, which it did quite often. Now we have a Myvi on longterm rental. Much better.

It's a proton Wira, pale blue, normal number of miles (translated as I don't know how many), hatchback, grey velour (luxury Smile) seats, CD player. We paid 16K for it and are looking for about 14.
It has been virtually rebuilt. New shocks, battery, A/C system, brakes, tyres..... you name it, we've had it done. We were totally conned when we got it.
Let me know if your friends are interested.
What sort of furniture do you want? we haven't bought a lot TBH, we've a microwave, worktop cooker, double gas ring burner and a couple of small Ikea tables. That's about it.

I'll pass that on Kreecher, it's the right sort of price range I think.

Re furniture, we're looking for tables mostly - dining, patio etc. What size are your small ones?

How are you finding the packing up to leave beurocracy-wise?

Update, the car is actually on for about 10K so my mistake. DH tells me I don't listen. Proof it seems.
The tables are not great, they are worth about 50 MR each so we'll just leave them either in the rubbish room for the cleaners or take them to the church.
No bureaucracy so far, DH hasn't even told the school he is leaving. It's too dull to go into but they've destroyed his mental health so his get out letter is from a psychiatrist. Poor bugger. Still he's got me Hmm

Sorry to hear you are going kreecher hopefully moving on to better things. Really sad to hear about you Dh. Is teaching in KL a lot different to teaching elsewhere or was I just some particular personalities within the school?

Thanks. It was a general shit storm TBH. School was the biggest factor.
Policies and people.
The funniest aspect is it all came to a head while he was having a medical to buy health insurance because his school provision is so woeful.

Hi
I live in KL. I've lived there 10 years but I'm new to MN.
My kids are older now (18, 15 and 12) but the younger two have done the whole of Primary school here.
dd1 is now of to uni in the UK, just wrapping my head around that.
We live in Bukit Damansara

Welcome to all new KL people xx
