Only around 20 minutes from me to the Hospice, and I'm at the beach. Took me 45 minutes to commute door to door for Middlemore though.

Only if they leave the wine seller full otherwise a tad overpriced Grin.

This one's been on the market a while they might be open to negotiation, also no pictures of the inside - might be a do-up!

OMG!!! I could easily spend half my life glued to property porn, soooo addictive...I didn't know Versailles-esque places like that last one even existed in NZ, AB! I was briefly tempted by your second offering sibble - amazing SPACE inside that house, and so light and bright - but it's too rural for me - we just escaped the countryside after four bucolic but driving-intensive years, and I am loving being a walk away from the supermarket, newsagent's, school etc! So while I don't need a big city, a suburb with amenities and a village feel is what I'd be after, near da beach. Fussy, I know Smile

justa - that is a very convincing illustration indeed of how much you love your new home Smile that's really positive. I need to come over and visit, really Smile I feel slightly hampered by only ever having driven through Auckland on the way to the airport before!

I'd be really tempted to join you on your lovely island AB if it wasn't for the impossible commute for DH (who, keep in mind, currently strolls down the hill and is at work within ten minutes!)

Back soon girls. It's been beautiful over here this weekend, May is such a gorgeous month...but grey and dull again today, sigh! Missing DS, who has gone to Paris with the school for five whole days - climbed onto the coach without a backward glance, always a good sign Smile

BBQ where are you - I am intrigued. Of course you don't have to tell me. I am guessing Beachlands or Maraetai but could be completely wrong!

DH has 3 interviews. Two on Wednesday and one on Thursday. Here's crossing all fingers and toes he gets one of them!

Good luck Frik- are they for jobs in your area or up in smelly Auckland?

Report
frikonastick · 21/05/2013 03:26

Two are for here, one is for Hamilton, and the Hamilton one they have an office here so hopefully DH would only have to commute a couple of days a week, but it's all supposition at this stage!

Thanks for the good wishes ladies :-)

Hope you are all okay in the storm ladies. We had a new drain installed today to try and solve our garage flooding issue. Hhm, it has cut down the volume of water but we need to tackle the front next - which is going to cost about 3k! Sigh. And it is also coming in a hole at the back and through crack in the floor.

Meerkate - like Justabout we would be much better off in the UK. But we try to think of our huge mortgage as an investment.

There was a comparison of High school results in the Herald today but I haven't managed to find it online. Anyone?

No huge storm here, about two mins of heavy rain. Though I have just seen photos on the Herald website about "waterspouts" (tornadoes over water, apparently) over the Manukau and the photo almost looks like it was taken from our house so may have been somewhere quite close.

Good luck with the interviews mrfrik

I haven't seen schools thing in the Herald but there is some part of the Ministry of Education website where you can compare high school results. And Metro does a big school results table thing about once a year. They weight it according to decile though.

Meerkate if your DH will be working at Middlemore I would recommend not living in Eastern suburbs, I think the commute would be such a pain.

Half Moon Bay/Bucklands Beach is a good area, you have the beach just there and I visited both schools last year and was blown away, particularly by Pigeon Mountain School. Both schools finish at Y6 and feed into Buckland Beach Intermediate. MacLeans College is an excellent state secondary school.

You mentioned a village feel...Howick is a lovely village and a great place to live too.

meerkate · 21/05/2013 21:19

frik ooh, well done your DH and the very best of luck! Let us know immediately how he got on Smile
fanjo - immediately googled both Half Moon Bay and Howick - thanks a lot, look like great areas and nearer M/more, yes indeed - will definitely keep those in mind Smile am totally abandoning Eastern 'Burbs plan if the commute is going to be a drag, that's a really big factor for us.
waterspouts? yikes...

OH used to commute to near middlemore and it wasn't too bad. Most of the traffic is going the other way. But agree Howick is a good possibility too. You get more house for your money.
