Oh god meerkate, you've just reminded me of a particularly horrendous trip to Cologne. We did get 2 rooms, but while I put DD to sleep in one room, DH fell asleep in the other. He is impossible to wake in such circumstances. I spent most of the evening sitting on the bathroom floor reading my book Hmm

Sibble · 25/04/2013 19:32

We usually get either one room or a serviced appartment which are not as expensive as you might think and at least you can make your own breakfast and lunch which keeps costs down and allows you to feed littlies at weird jetlagged hours. Check out wotif.com for some last minute deals. We have stayed in a fantastic one a few times but the name escapes me at the moment, will post if remember.

Well, we had quite the exciting night! The house opposite to us is being renovated, the whole top half is gone and the owners are living in the basement part. Anyway, at about 11pm we hear shouting and swearing, after about 10 minutes its really really loud so I get up and go out onto our top deck which looks over the whole street.

Basically the guy across the road found a bunch of teenagers casing the place and caught one of them as they ran off. So the rest of the teenagers there were about 8 of them to start with, were threatning to kill him etc etc etc, they had bricks and things. So I tell DH to call the police pronto. Turns out guy across the road is an ex police man, and he was so so calm the whole time, but also not taking any of the crap, never swore or anything even though I have never in my life heard language like those kids used, they are inventive I have to say! But he wouldn't let go of the kid he had caught.

So I can see everything from where I am and hear everything, and 2 of the teenagers who looked the oldest, slipped away up the street, I think they were probably the ones who orchestrated the whole thing and were smart enough to duck while they could. In the meantime the ex cop is telling the kids to call their parents, none of which would, except the 14 year old, that's right 14 year old girl with them. She called her mom.

And then the cops arrived!!! I was like Shock they had dogs and stab vests and there were 3 cars and van full of them!!! Anyway, they had them all handcuffed and sorted out in short order. They let the girl wait for her mom to come and get her.

What was really funny was our neighbour to the left came out in the middle of all this and was like, I can't believe this is happening and you have just moved in! It's the first time in 12 years anything has happened on the street ever! Lol. I was like, it's cool, no one is armed and the jpolice actually came, so like, it's a win!

thelittlestkiwi · 25/04/2013 21:49

Thanks for all the advice. I think we'll go for the serviced apartment as we'll be away for a week and going to sleep at 8pm isn't the most fun ever. DH is actually going to a conference. (I suspect he has realised there would be a mutany if he didn't take us this time!) Which means we probably only have to pay for 2/3 nights. Sydney is stupidly expensive though.

We stayed in a hotel room on an island when DD was about 10 months. At that stage she was bomb proof so I used to send the maids in during her naps and just asked them to be quiet. Unfortunately they loved babies and used to bang the cot to wake her up so they could whisk her away for a play!

Frik- your night sounds exciting! Lucky the owners were there.

frikonastick · 27/04/2013 11:13

Oooohh sibble, that's lovely.

AngryBeaver · 27/04/2013 20:26

nice sibble!

My race day today, I am pathetically nervous. I went into Auck yesterday and bought sexy running gear from Nike...and 3 pairs of wellies for kids...now have no money left til weds, but hey ho!

I look for a link for house. It looks nice, but the road its on is a dirt track and there were some questionable residents on our drive down. 2 metal workers surrounded by rusty cars. An angry old man in wheelchair with big dog...FROWNING at us. And the next door neighbour has a sign on his house that says RUM LODGE...so hmmmmm

and dont talk to me about poas! its all ive been doing and have come to the conclusion I may have had an incomplete after losing Hope..hence inability to concieve again and other problems. Dr.s Monday, dignity at door :(

ooh and well done on the walking and skipping frick!! I cant skip, hurts my boobs too much!

That house does look nice AB though it has been on the market six months - do you think that's because of the neighbours?

Well, house is a no go,too much needs doing. It's a shame as it was quirky&loads of potential. But was deep in bush, so dark&reeked of dampHmm
On a brighter note, I came 28th in my race.
Not sure how many ran altogether, as there were categories and teams.
We all set of at the same time though.
Anyway out of 54 individual runners, that's where I came!.
Pushed myself really hard.
I know it's not a great place, but fook me, I earnt it!Grin

I'm soo tired now, but just getting ready to go for roast lamb(mmm) at a friends.
THEN, tomorrow and everday next wek,I've got intensive pilates& another run.At 6 am!! WHAT was I thinking??

WhatSheSaid · 28/04/2013 06:07

AB No, you really don't want a house that smells of damp only a few weeks after just about the driest summer on record. Imagine how it would be around October after 4 months of cold and rain.

Well done on the race, you're making me feel unfit just thinking about it...I did cycle today though and did about 2 hours gardening (mostly pulling up zillions of weeds that have come up since the recent rain). So I suppose that's a bit of exercise. I then ruined it by going to a cafe with dd1 and us eating 2 big cakes there. It's so nice sometimes just to have one on one time with the older child, without the younger one climbing all over me/shouting/fighting/ trying to empty all the sugar packets etc etc etc.
