Salary for a live-in nanny in Paris - Help please!

Our wonderful nanny (we live in eastern europe) has been offered a job with a family she knows just outside Paris. Can anyone tell me if the following is a reasonable salary for a live-in nanny please.

1100E per month net. Apartment paid for but not bills - approx 100E extra per month. 4 days per week of 11 hours plus one evening babysitting per week. Food paid for on the days she works. One 2 year old and a 5 year old from 3pm.

25 days paid holiday (when employers choose), one return flight paid for during the 18month period.

What do you think? I would be so grateful for some advice as this seems lowish to me but I am used to London salaries.

The nanny has 10+ years experience and is very highly regarded in the expat community here but no formal childcare qualifications. She is 45. She doesn't speak French.

Well, I don't know anything specifically about nannying in Paris. But look at fusac.fr, then choose the online magazine in English and flick to the job offers--childcare section to see what people are offering for similar positions.

25 days paid holiday is the legal standard in France, though the 'when employers choose' bit could be annoying. Apartments in Paris are ridiculously expensive, think 600 euros+ per month for a miniscule one room studio up to 1000 euros per month for a slightly more decent one bed. So that has to be taken in account too. Particularly if she is being offered a nice, private apartment (ie more than 20 square metres and with separate living/sleeping spaces), it could be a really good deal. I'd want to know more about the apartment, I think, to know what I thought of the salary offer.

Overall, it sounds only SLIGHTLY underpaid to me, given that she has to pay 100 euros bills out of her salary. Most of my friends here in Paris (and me myself) are English teachers, and when you take into consideration our hours, net salary and rent the offer above seems roughly equivalent - but most of us don't have ten years of experience. So, her ten years of experience makes me think she could fight for a bit more, but then would it be a downside to her employer than she couldn't speak French, i.e. for communication with school, every day stuff at shops/activity places etc?

Gosh. Why would a 45 year old non-French speaking nanny want to move to the Paris suburbs for EUR 1,000 a month? Where is she from? She will be terribly lonely.

Why don't the parents want a French speaking nanny?

Blimey, the going rate in Geneva, three hours down the road from Paris, is ?3000 gross per month for a 40 hour week, all bills included. Plus extras.

I'm obviously in the wrong job, I clear 1200 euro a month, don't get paid 2 months of a year, have 4 children to feed and clothe, look after a 10 to 1 ratio of 3-4 year olds at school. A Geneva salary would be so tempting.

Yes i know, and the live out salary is ?4000 per month upwards plus expenses and more. Not bad!

The family want her as she used to look after their children in the country I am in now and then they returned to Paris. She had children young and has worked in her home country all her life and I think she really just wants to have an 'adventure' for a year (it is only for one year).

So on balance people think it is low? Thats interesting. Thanks

Most people I knew working there 5 years ago were on 1500min FT with accom, bills and food. It's slightly low, especially if she's experienced. In demand nannies were getting practically double.
