Anyone living in Vietnam?

DH and I love Vietnam so much and are considering moving there for a few years. He would need to work, he is in advertising - specializing in digital but does tv too. He is bilingual English/French and I speak only English.

We'd happily go to HCMC or Hanoi, or even Danang - to be honest we'd consider anywhere.

Does anyone have any advice, links etc? We have a DS but he's pre-school age at the moment and would possibly home school him until he is 6 so no drastic need for ex-pat facilities etc.

Hello Owls,

DH & I live in HCMC - much preferable to Hanoi & the mould / cold! HCMC is very well suited to expats - lots of good international schools but $$$. Most ex pats with kids live in District 2 or 7 where the traffic is less horrifically dangerous.

Take a look at these magazines for a better idea of what's available - the adverts are very revealing about life here.

Beware the usual cynics but interesting discussions - mostly EFL teachers:

Also try joining Phu My Hung neighbours on google groups to see what people here buy / sell / rent etc./

Hi WeeNoggi - thank you so much! (I name changed) this is sooo helpful.

As a city we prefer Hanoi but can definitely see the attraction of HCMC. How do you find life there? Are there any less £££ school options?

Thanks do much for all the info

Hi Ophelia, I'll get my thoughts together and pm you later. Thank you so much x

We find we have to pay staff more to live in Hanoi as an incentive - it's just more challenging.

There are all kinds of schools - contact a few from the word magazine above for info on fees.

Feel free to PM me as well - maybe we can all get together for a drink here Smile
