Any sydney mums around pyrmont?

Hi all, I am moving to sydney with my husband and 5 month old baby from the uk in a few weeks time. We will be living in the pyrmont area. I've never been to sydney before so wondered whether there were any mums around who may like to meet up for a coffee? Or whether there are any mother and baby groups near to pyrmont that anyone could recommend?

Hi, I'm in the inner west.

First I found this, www.pyrmontplaygroup.com/ I think it's the most active community centre I've seen round here. And across the road is the Ian Thorpe Aquatic centre, I took DS there from about 10 weeks. Also you have the Darling Harbour park www.darlingquarter.com/play which is good to cool down in, and we hang out at the aquarium a fair bit so an annual pass even for 6 months may be worth it even with a very littlie.

Most people will be part of a mothers group created by nsw health team, but I couldn't find anything, will try again soon, but just a bit knackered and need to go to bed now.

Before I go, I think a Sydney meet up is well overdue so you may be a good excuse to set one up, I shall be back.

That's great. Thanks so much for the information so far. I had looked at the Ian Thorpe aquatic centre website but couldn't see anything about baby swimming - did they run sessions at certain times each week when you went? Looks like an annua pass is very good value compared to paying entry separately for the aquarium so I'll look into that. A meet up would be great if people are keen. As you must be aware it feels very hard going from home where you have friends and family around to the other side of the world where you don't know anyone. Just to have some people to meet for a coffee etc would be lovely.

I'm not far from Pyrmont. Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre is great. My DS has been having lessons there since he was 4 months old and he's just turned 2 Smile The lessons run 7 days a week so you should be able to find a session time to suit you.

We also love the water park at Darling Harbour. The water bit is great for all ages, the playground section is definitely aimed at older children though.

I imagine that if you contact your local early childhood centre they would be able to slot you into a mothers group.

I'll be on maternity leave from mid Feb so will be looking for some weekday entertainment for me and DS if you want to meet for coffee Grin

Thats great. Really good to have some ideas for activities before we arrive so I really appreciate the info. Would be great to meet up for a coffee. We arrive second week of jan so sometime in feb when you've started mat leave would be lovely.

Not long to go till your big move then. How long are you planning on being here for?

The other thing you could look at joining is Playgroups NSW. They basically oversee alot of the playgroups, so most let you have a trial session then you need to join to attend regualrly. Annual membership is really cheap, and then you can access any playgroup you like, so you can try different suburbs and different days. Most Playgroups and mother and baby groups are shut for the summer at the moment, and will restart at the beginning of Feb, so things might be a bit quiet when you first arrive.

Thats great-the move is definitely creeping up fast-last week of packing! Thanks for the info-will be trying out the playgroup when we arrive. Plan is to be in sydney for about 7 months. Thanks for sending the link to the meet up-sounds like an excellent idea. Looking forward to meeting up in sydney!

No problem at all. We are here now - the weather is a little warmer than in the uk as snow is expected there at the mo! The journey was no where near as horrendous as expected so that was a relief! Looking forward to meeting at the meet up arranged in feb or if anyone fancies meeting for a coffee before then just let me know.

Hi Carolyn, gutted, we just moved from Pyrmont to Brisbane, would have loved to meet up! Anyway, I know the area, so can give you advice on places to go, doctors etc., pm me if you have any questions. Also I was in a mum's group there, a small one, just 5 of us, I can hook you up with those girls if you'd like?
