Moving to Muscat, Oman with young baby

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if there are any nurseries for a 9 month old baby in Muscat, Oman? I have heard that nurseries tend to be pre-school nurseries but I am hoping that this is wrong as I would l like my little one to go to nursery after we move. I am also keen to hear about any baby classes that I can take her to? And any other useful tips are welcomed!!

Thanks

My DD was born there 11 years ago. At the time, there was on Australian woman who ran an ante natal class with a Dutch Physiotherapist.
My DD started at a sort of nursery thing when she was 16 months old. Essentially it was for socialising, she seldom saw other children.
I think things have moved on a bit since then, I know there are a couple of posters who live in the Sultanate, hopefully one will be along soon.
My best toptip, based on 11 year old and probably out of date experience was to join the American Womens group. It isn't just Americans.
Good luck, we had a fantastic three years there.

If you are on Facebook have a look for the Muscat Mums group. Plenty going on.

iMoniker is right Oman is amazing.

It is also f'ing hot just now (today was a demon). Can you possibly delay your arrival by a month or two? 8 months of the year the weather is lovely, but when it gets mean...

This is our 4th year here, we don't have kids the same age as yours, so cannot actually offer any advice re. nurseries. But I just wanted to let you know that I am not alone in really liking it here

Thanks for the posts it is so nice to hear everyone gush about how nice Muscat is to live. I have been there once before and my first impression was that it's a beautiful place with friendly people but now that we are moving I am getting slightly apprehensive! Very excited too though!

We move in 2 months time so will hopefully miss the max temperatures this summer! But sunny skies is so appealing!

I have found quite a few nurseries, most are for slightly older babies or toddlers but there are one or two that seem to take young babies so I plan to take a trip out to see around them. If anyone else has any recommendations on nurseries or baby classes, please keep them coming. I really do appreciate hearing anything useful about living/working in Muscat.

Thanks

Hi Chatterbox,
Have you tried this site?
And come join me & other expat wives from all over the world at www.facebook.com/groups/expatonlinecoffee/ - we are a friendly & very varied lot, you'll find someone that has lived or knows someone just about everywhere.
Also try & find less formal mother&baby / playgroups when you arrive, they're the perfect way to meet others in the same situation (& really not as horrendous as you might imagine Smile)

Thank you - I will try the links :)
