Singapore Mums Meet Up?

Hi,
It seems that there are a few new arrivals on the board recently. I've only been here a bit less than a year myself and wondered if anyone (new or old) would like to meet up? We could meet at Food for Thought at the Botanic Gardens one morning - it does decent coffee and there is a little play ground outside the cafe if people have little ones to entertain?
Let me know if you're keen and we can arrange a date.

Hi there,
Thanks for suggesting. I am definitely interested. I've been here 3 weeks tomorrow and haven't made it to the Botanic Gardens yet. My boys are 9 and 7. Would the playground suit them or is it for toddlers?
Thanks. Look forward to meeting you,
K

kday · 12/07/2012 16:29

Hi!
That playground wouldn't suit them (it's for 5 and under really) but we could think of another place. Shall we see who plans to join and how many kids/ages we need to accommodate and then find a location?

I'm keen to meet up somewhere. My son is 17 months but we're pretty flexible. We've been here about 3 months.

pupsiecola · 12/07/2012 17:23

If the majority have under 5s I'll leave my boys with a friend for a couple of hours - no problem. Or if it's next week they're doing a lego building type of a course from 2 to 4.30 every day, and the week after that they're in an all day camp. They need to make friends!! So it may work out well anyway.

Thanks!

londonmoo · 12/07/2012 17:54

Hello all! Pupsie once we're out there you can add me to the list of Older Boy Playdates, by then you'll be nicely established and can show us the ropes. Nice summer plans, btw.

Merlion · 13/07/2012 03:21

I've been here a while but would still like to meet up. I have ds (nearly 4) and dd (13mo). I can't do mornings as I work then but happy to do some other time or even meet for a drink one evening instead!

HollyMadison · 13/07/2012 05:39

The Lego building course sounds awesome (for me that is)!! But seriously, I'm all over the evening drink idea. Could do that in addition to a meet up with kids if others are keen.

londonmoo · 13/07/2012 08:00

Up for pretty much anything once we're there. Yay!

Mummyinggnome · 13/07/2012 09:35

Sounds good. I have a 4,3 and 2 year old!

londonmoo · 13/07/2012 11:36

Mine's 7. Likes being the 'grown up' one but equally happy idolising older kids.

Kingyfam · 15/07/2012 06:34

I would love to meet up too. I have a 16 month old dd and 3.5 year old ds but ds starts pre school next week not full time yet though. Something with the kids and and evening drink sounds like a great plan to me.

Hi,
Sorry for the delay in checking the thread - I've been distracted with studying for the theory test to convert my driver's licence. There's several hours of my life I'll never get back...
How about a coffee with kids meet up at the Botanic Gardens on 23 July? 9.30? Pupsie, if your boys are with you, there's a decent size area they could kick a ball about, or plenty of space to sit and play on an ipad...

I love the evening drink idea too - next one?

EggyChick · 17/07/2012 15:13

kday - just in case you are anxious, the driving theory test is easy, the questions are easier than the on-line practice tests (and p.s. there are 9 expressways, though heaven knows why you would need to know that!)

I am not around next week but will keep an eye out for any other meet ups.

kday · 17/07/2012 16:34

Thanks, Eggychick - the online tests are quite hard!

Sorry not to see you next week - if the date doesn't work for others either I'll repost.

Just thought I'd pop in and say hi Smile

Moving to Singapore in the next couple of weeks with DP to hopefully find a job & would love to meet some friendly faces over there. Not a mum myself - hope that's not a problem - but I'm an excellent babysitter!

Will keep an eye out for any other meet ups, if that's ok.

pupsiecola · 18/07/2012 03:04

Hi there, 9.30am on the 23rd is great for me. The boys are doing Camp Magic so I will drop them there then come on over!

Thanks for organising,
Karen

Kingyfam · 18/07/2012 05:55

I'll be there just with my dd though as ds at pre-school she is 16 months. Where exactly are we meeting in the kids bit? and yes let's sort out an evening drink next.

Kingyfam · 18/07/2012 05:57

Anyone know of something that's on Friday morning and want to catch up?

HollyMadison · 18/07/2012 12:58

I can't meet next week as I have someone staying but keen for future meet ups.

kday · 19/07/2012 13:14

Kingyfam - I thought we could meet in the main Botanic Gardens, rather than the kids bit (Jacob Ballas). Just near Tanglin Gate is a cafe called Food for Thought which has a little play area but also nice coffee etc for grown ups. Here's a map - www.foodforthought.com.sg/fft/home.php?p=contact
Looking forward to meeting those who can make it. I'll try to get a table outside in the shade by the playground - a bit warm maybe but easy for those bringing little ones. We can always move inside if too hot or wet.

Great see you then.

SwellyBelly · 24/07/2012 08:08

Hi all - seems there are a few of us - I just moved here too from Switzerland, with my 3 kids (all under 3)! I found mumsnet to be a great resource for meeting mums there, and im finding it hard to find mum networks here that aren't all about enrichment and alpha mumming! I work during the week, and our helper hasnt started yet, so if you are also open to having a dad joining your days, Im sure DH would also love to hang out with you all! When's the next date?

kday · 24/07/2012 14:42

Hi SwellyBelly,
I know what you mean! We haven't got a next date yet (but will!) and hoped it would be an evening one as there are other mums who are working too but keen to join in. DH always welcome - do you know there are also some SAHD groups in Singapore (not to exclude him from here, just to make you aware!). One is run by ANZA - Australian and New Zealand Association - but everyone is welcome despite nationality, I think. PM me if you'd like any details.

Kinyfam and I are gonna get together Friday morning if anyone fancies it...

pupsiecola · 25/07/2012 03:04

Kingyfam even. 5 hours sleep after 2 strong cocktails. Brain not quite engaged...
