Facebook open group

Please look at this and try and spread the word however you can - via FB, Twitter. Due to the Jubilee celebrations here this is getting no coverage on the BBC.

Many thanks in advance

MrsSnaplegs · 02/06/2012 17:41

If the link takes you to the front log in page of FB you will need tolog in and it will redirect you - if not the group is called Bring Timmy Home - set up by his family
Many thanks for taking the time to look Smile

It's not been reported at ALL on 7 days or gulf news ( that I can see)

Most odd

I know some regulars at Rock Bottom will FB them

Hopefully he's just had one bullfrog too many and is sleeping off a monumental hangover

IdontknowwhyIcare · 03/06/2012 05:56

I've posted on fb and my friends have reposted. It is on Expatwoman. People were talking in mcGettigans last night, so I think people are looking and trying to find him. Fingers crossed all will be well.
This happened a few years ago and the guy was found in hospital as they didn't have a name for him. But it was only by going to check.

MrsSnaplegs · 03/06/2012 08:08

Thank you both Smile The more we can keep this in the public eye the better chance he has of being found

its the main story on 7 days today ( Dubai equivalent of the freebie Metro)

TheQueenOfSheba · 05/06/2012 05:39

Having lived in Dubai for many years, I would guess that he is either in hospital or jail. Does anybody know why the family have not come out to look for him? I think that is most odd.

IdontknowwhyIcare · 05/06/2012 06:29

It is in the other papers now, also on the radio who have both mentioned it numerous times and posted it on their website and Facebook. It has happened before that people have gone missing. Usually they are found in hospital. Nobody actually equates the photo with the real person.
However there is probably more to this sadly, because there are cameras at the entrance to Rock Bottom and taxis can be tracked by gps. At our school, and I know the British embassy suggest this, when you or whoever gets in a taxi they make a call telling the colour roof (very very important) and the number. Never sit in the front. My son and his friends always do this this, it let's me know the time he is leaving, what taxi he is in, every taxi can only have 2 drivers so it is easy to track who the driver was if something happens.
The embassy are very good, they have an excellent relationship with the police and the local authorities. I'm sure they will get to the bottom of this soon and he will be found in hospital or in jail. Taxi drivers used to get a bonus if they took drunk passengers to the police station, not su if that still happens but I can sadly imagine that happening.
Thoughts and prayers for a positive outcome.

MrsSnaplegs · 05/06/2012 06:46

*idontknowwhyicare" that's really helpful I will copy and paste to FB page if that is ok with you?
His wife is 6 months pregnant and has 2 other children and so far has been advised not to travel
Latest update from the family was they are working with the RN and FCO
The ship initially put out search parties and they have left a liaison officer behind
I understand the Dubai community is really taking an interest in this so hopefully wherever he is he will be found
Thank you Smile

Sure thing, no problem. Just wish there was more we could do. I know that all the western expat community are talking about it and looking out. Its now a sticky on Expatwoman plus another thread with links to fb etc. Its also been in other more local papers now.
Fingers crossed all comes good very soon.

TheQueenOfSheba · 05/06/2012 14:40

I know the family have come under a lot of criticism from the Dubai expat community for not coming out to search for him. It is highly plausible that he is in jail or hospital but the authorities have not been informed. Sadly, it happens a lot out here.

MrsSnaplegs · 05/06/2012 21:33

There is someone working on behalf of the family through the FB page and she has been going to all hospitals and prisons.
I think the family are being advised by the FCO and MOD and that is why other members haven't gone.
Thank you those of you that are out there for keeping this in the public eye
There was a vigil for him today at the local church and the local community are starting to use yellow ribbons on trees an houses

TheQueenOfSheba · 06/06/2012 03:50

Just one person? And is this a family member or an embassy official? I would be very concerned if the latter, as the British Embassy out here are notorious for being absolutely useless.

It's sad really, as this story has become old news out here. The newspapers are not talking about it anymore and the local expat community have offered all they can in terms of help, but none of it has been taken up.

Instead of focusing on a Facebook page and tying ribbons, the family really should be out here looking for him.

MrsSnaplegs · 06/06/2012 06:15

Queen. My understanding is it is a volunteer over there who is going round plus lots of people out putting up posters and trying to keep the profile raised there. Lots of expat community appear to be helping still. Hopefully there will be news now all the Jubilee stuff is over Smile

OP posts:
TheQueenOfSheba · 06/06/2012 06:22

Well, there is nothing in the papers about him today or on the radio. Also I live in Dubai and have not seen one single poster.

MrsSnaplegs · 06/06/2012 06:22

Thanks Queen Sad

Very small circulation and for English speakers only. Communication works very differently out here. The only way to get any information is to go and speak to people. And that goes for everything, not just missing persons. He could have been dumped in the desert by the taxi driver. People should be out here looking for him.
