SYDNEY MN MEET UP - time for another one?

Thumbwitch · 10/05/2012 04:05

Seeing as how it usually takes a couple of months for us to find a date that's mutually convenient, I thought I'd start the thread now - who's up for another meet up?
I am of course Wink - who else is available? And when? And where? Do we want a plus-kids or a minus-kids one?

Thoughts please :)

I don't mind where, I'm still up for it.

PerimenopausalMyArse · 08/06/2012 01:54

Oops - forgot I had name changed. I was Sunnydelight for eight years and am kind of over it Grin I'll be getting the train from Turramurra, there's a station car park there too thumb if you wanted to meet there? It's a few stations before Roseville coming your direction.

Thumbwitch · 09/06/2012 09:01

oo, I haven't tried Turramurra before, Perimen (Glad I know who you are now, saw you elsewhere and was sure I "knew" you, iykwim!) Is it a free carpark as well? I'd be quite happy to go from there if it's just as easy as Roseville, not so far to drive in!

PerimenopausalMyArse · 10/06/2012 09:50

Yes, free station carpark Thumb - it's not a really big one but it should be pretty empty on a Sunday. if not there is plenty of on street parking that isn't controlled on Sundays either.

CornishMade · 12/06/2012 11:16

Wowee, it appears I may now be having my first night away from ds in 3 years! DH suggested that instead of coming down for the day, I go down on Sat p.m. and have a night out with SIL who lives in Sydney, stay at hers, do sth else in Sydney on Sun a.m. and then meet up with you all... Sounds v. good. I am looking forward to just reading a book on the train for a few hours each way! Wonder how I will survive my night 'off' from ds...
Forecast for Sunday is currently 'possible shower' (a 50% chance).

bunnygirl80 · 13/06/2012 10:26

Cornish that sounds fab. Hope you enjoy your night off

Thumbwitch · 13/06/2012 10:40

That does sound excellent, Cornish!

It's fecking cold at the moment - do we want to risk the Opera Bar or shall we give RVP's idea of the Belgian Beer Café a go instead?

www.belgian-beer-cafe.com.au/heritage

I thinks you mean this place? Or the Opera Bar has an inside, I'm in no way fussed, just happyto be outlf the house. Sod this sodding rain, serves me right for gloating about the weather up-thread.

Anywho if no one else objects or has an opinion the I elect Thumb as thread starter and with 'special news' to make the call.

Thumbwitch · 14/06/2012 05:52

Ooo, god, I just looked at the menu and it's a bit costly but some lovely stuff on there, especially if you like mussels!

Urgh, I don't know if I can face the responsibility! Grin

I've just phoned the Belgian Beer Café and they have plenty of room this Sunday lunchtime (at the moment anyway) so it's an option.

Come on, someone else vote!!

OP posts:
abithormonal · 14/06/2012 06:03

Well I was going to suggest cafe sydney www.cafesydney.com/about/ then looked at the prices, it's a great place when someone else is paying.

Thumbwitch · 14/06/2012 06:15

I've been to the Helm Bar at Pier 26, Cockle Bay before, that's quite nice - this is their menu and it's more reasonably priced, if that matters to anyone.

OK, we need a vote.

OP posts:
bunnygirl80 · 14/06/2012 10:27

I vote Helm Bar, as it's only a quick hop over the Anzac bridge for me

Also, I heard on the radio today that there are major track works in the CBD this weekend, so Circular Quay and various other stations on the city circle are closed. Central, Town Hall and Wynyard are still open, so we should maybe try and stay nearish to one of those stations.

Thumbwitch · 14/06/2012 11:24

Oh good info! Ok, I'm voting for Helm Bar as well then.
Anyone else? I refuse to have the deciding vote on this until more people have given it a look...

OP posts:
CornishMade · 14/06/2012 12:12

Helm Bar looks good to me. :)

abithormonal · 14/06/2012 23:14

I'm pumping like a crazy thing (ebf) so that I can have a jug of $13 cider, helm bar gets my vote.

Thumbwitch · 14/06/2012 23:55

Cool! Helm Bar it is then. I may phone them and book, just to be on the safe side. :)

redvelvetpoppy · 15/06/2012 00:29

Another one happy with the Helm Bar Smile

Arfishy · 15/06/2012 15:16

Hello SunnyD and Thumbwitch! How are you?!

I just popped in to see how everybody was and saw a meetup for tomorrow. Too late notice for me now, but lovely to see you still here!

Have fun tomorrow - Opera Bar MUCH nicer than the Bavarian. Hope the rain stays away & enjoy!

Thumbwitch · 15/06/2012 23:30

Arfy!! what a shame you can't make it - but next time, hopefully :)

Haven't seen you around for ages and ages, how've you been?

OP posts:
Sunnydelight · 16/06/2012 09:50

Hey Arfy - long time! What have you been up to? It's a shame you can't make the meet up.

Helm Bar is fine by me, are we still meeting at 12.30 and can someone bring something identifiable as I don't know if I will recognize anyone? I've changed my nickname back as I can't quite bring myself to go up to people and say "I'm PerimenopausalMyArse"!!!

I think I might still have your mobile no. somewhere Thumb - mine is still the same if you have it. I'm going to go into the city early for a mooch round the shops so will probably be passing through Turramurra before you get there.

Thumbwitch · 16/06/2012 10:25

Identifiable - well, I'll have a 23w pg bump, but that might not be visible - just text me when you're there and we'll look for you. :)
My number is still the same too.

12:30 still sounds good to me - due to rank incompetence I failed to book a table so if anyone fancies getting there a bit earlier, that might be a good plan (sorry!)

OP posts:
bunnygirl80 · 16/06/2012 10:49

I'll probably be there a bit early as it's a pain in the neck to time it with buses. There are about 5000000000 buses that go past my bus stop into the city, but they are timed to all arrive within 5 mins of each other, then none at all for 20 mins Confused

Thumbwitch · 16/06/2012 16:21

Just checked the trains and I'll have to get off at Wynyard, but it's apparently only a 10min walk from there to the Helm Bar (or 15min waddle Wink) so I should be able to manage that without too much trauma! Grin

OP posts:
Eralc · 17/06/2012 22:09

Oh wow thumb - I didn't know you were pregnant - huge congratulations :D

Thumbwitch · 18/06/2012 00:29

Thank you Eralc! :)
You were missed yesterday - we had a great time though. The Helm Bar worked very well!

Lovely to see you all, and meet SunnyD at last - hope we can do it all again soon :)
