Jobs for trailing spouses

We were talking today, it is a conversation that comes up. Should we go in for beauty therapy, hairdressing or teaching. And if teaching should it be as a proper secondary school teacher or a tefl teacher. Or are there any other jobs that suit to being a trailing spouse? Or should we just be happy that we don't have to work, and look forward to getting really good at golf?

Imperfectionist has lots of great suggestions. I'd add doctor and all kinds of research positions to the mix - they have kept me employed in many countries while my expat friends have played a lot of bridge

We are the other way round...DH is the trailing spouse and I am the only name as working on the visa. He is allowed to work as few or as many hrs as he wants in whichever job he wants and the kids are allowed to study, all on my visa. I HAVE to work regular, full-time or else go back home- no middle ground. SadWhen we came out here, we did it with naive idea of us swapping roles and him becoming a househusband and caring for our small children... He would love to play golf! However things did not work out like that. We soon realised that it would be impossible to live off one wage. However it was really difficult for him to find a job- he did manual work in warehouses (the blisters he got!) until he managed to get a contract Job which led to a f/t position in his beloved IT. Part-time for him would suit us all better, but we have decided to try and make the best of a difficult situation.
