Aussie round up - what are you doing for Christmas?

Seeing as El Nina is promising us a damp Christmas Day, in Melbourne, at least, we're planning the seafood specials indoors.

What film to watch, in a Christmas Stylee - The Great Escape? The Railway Children?

No overseas visitors this year, so Boxing Day with friends (poms, too come think of it, but been here for YEARS)

A Christmas eve at work then home at dawn before the dd's wake up. Then some Aussie friends are have a help a Pom with no family Christmas day. Crayfish ordered and good fun ahead!!!

Oo Echt do you have a forecast for Xmas day? We currently have 30 degrees predicted for Christmas Eve but no news of the day itself until tomorrow I suppose. Pissing down and cold here at the moment so very English currently.

We will have DH's miserable family here for a seafood lunch. So am not 100 % looking forward to the day itself. I will however go all out making it a brilliant Christmas for my daughters and DH's unfestive boring family can all eff orf (or more hopefully get over themselves and join in a bit).

Lulalullabye does that mean you will have NO SLEEP on Christmas eve? Hells bells!

Yay! Just checked on BOM, and the forecast now includes Christmas Day: mostly sunny and 30 degrees in Melbourne. I'm sure this could change as it's very windy, warm and showery at the mo.

Hope your DH's family cheer up a bit, Claudia You can always slip them a dodgy prawn.:o

Wow, looked at Adelaide, ladies. 36!! That dodgy prawn could well sort itself out.

36!!!

Oh crikey. That's hot.

Maybe a trip to the beach in the morning would be in order.

Hi from Brissy, My first non Uk Xmas in 8 years!!! It will be 28 degrees and sunny, possible shower. We will be having seafood and turkey by the pool! Love the mulled wine, good minced pies, port and cheese we had in the uk but great to be home!!

lulalullabye · 19/12/2011 03:24

Yes 36 degrees!!!!!
And yes, I will be up all night and watching for Father Christmas. I work in emergency so hoping for a quiet one. I will have a few hours in the morning.
My MIL is here so probably better to keep out of the way and sleep a few hours.

Newcastle is supposed to be mostly sunny and 24 deg, which sounds great for me - not too hot! (Showers all week tho so the Sunday prediction may change.)
We're doing roast duck, roast pots and a green vege salad. BBQ Prawn starter. This is at ours, with DH family; first time I've hosted an Aussie Xmas! In true Aussie style MIL has won a ham at her club so we can have that as a Xmas brekkie. I don't want the multi-meat roast lunch that Aussies traditionally had, and that she did for us last year....

We're in brissie - hoping for sunshine so my inlaws can't whinge about the weather - this is week 9 of a 12 week visit from them. Dp & I are making the most of having live-in babysitters & going for a romantic afternoon out on Xmas eve, getting home in time to put out some sherry (or XXXX GOLD more likely), a mince pie & some carrots for Father Christmas & Rudolph with dd (age 2.11). Xmas day we will be opening pressies in the morning & heading out for lunch - a treat as I couldn't face the prospect of having to live up to a traditional mil Xmas in this heat! Then I expect the pils will get sozzled & hopefully fall asleep so me, dp & dd can have some family time playing with all our new toys. Boxing day not yet decided!

differentnameforthis · 02/01/2012 06:14

Well it didn't get to 36 here in Adelaide. But yesterday & today it was 39/40, so I think we more than made up for our dreadful start to summer...not that I minded about our cold/warm summer!

All back to normal-ish tomorrow, dd2 at childcare for the day, dh back at work, so am looking forward to some special time with dd1
