Wow,have just gone to post and it wouldn't except it! So have had to start a new thread. Hope everyone finds it ok.I feel a bit like we've all been out for the night and somehow got seperated and no one has their mobile!!Grin
Anyway, this was the question I've had to cut and paste from the old thread:...

Sorry, have had a quick look but can't see...has anyone used emirates?
I think the sky couch thing looks good, but we'd have to buy a couple and that would be pricey.
Dh reckons Emirates are fine, but I don't think he's anticipating how different it's going to be travelling that disatnce with 3 exhausted infants.
He has limited travel experience as it is and the longest he has been on a plane with them is 3 hours. He keeps saying it will be fine, they'll sleep for loads of it...somehow I'm thinking this will not happen!!

AngryBeaver · 09/12/2011 07:46

Hi Justabout, hope you get some sleep soon!!
ps
I think they have abolished that ruke, but some people still abide ny it. It freaked me out today as I was inicating right, and a huge lorry was turning in same place on his side of the road...waving me accross! Behind him was a bus about to overtake and dh shouting"Go Go!! He's letting you go! Go go!" I was like "aaaaarrrghhh!"and floored it! stupid bloody rule!

OP posts:
febes · 09/12/2011 07:54

The right hand turning rule is changing in end of March until then you have the right of way if you are turning right. Left turners must give way- stupid rule!!!

WhatSheSaid · 09/12/2011 07:55

They haven't abolished it yet, it's changing in March next year.

Welcome to Auckland justabout Smile

I think supermarket prices are high, but especially if you're used to buying value/basics products in the UK - there's no 40p packets of biscuits or 20p tinned tomatoes here! Although there may not be in the UK any more either, haven't been there for a year. I definitely spend more on food here but I spend less on other things so it helps balance it out.

Wow,You'rw a fast mover,justabout...good luck,I hope you get it!
Yeah, cans of toms are pretty cheap. And I have defo found it pays to shop around. I bought chicken with the skin on (have never done that) they were $9 cheaper, and I just removed the skin before cooking.

After all our good experiences and the acts of kindness that's been shown to us over the last few weeks,we had our first very bad experience yesterday.
We went to Mt Mangurui for a bit of beach fun. Took the body boards, picnic, buckets etc Had a lovely day on a stunning beach.
Then tired and ready for home (well, the motel!)we got in the car and realised dh had left the lights on...no battery!
Ok a pain in the arse, but no biggy as we took out AA cover with the car.
Went to ring on dh's phone, battery went. Went to ring on my phone,it's on red bar and goes flat before they answer!
So we walk into town (absoloutely packed and decide would never want to live there!!) to Tourist Info centre, were guy is very lovely and finds number from google and lets us make phonecall from there.
Anyway we walk back to car and wait. Tis now 5 pm and Info centre fair walk away and closed anyhow. All the phoneboxes take coins. No shops around.
We see a motel and dh goes to ask if we can use phone.
Motel owner most put out but after dh practically BEGS him,he letes him in to use phone.
We go back to car and wait another hour,by this time it had been nearly 4 hours.
Kids were going wild,it was cold, getting dark,we had no water etc
So I say to dh,go and ask that guy if you can use the phone again to check where the hell they are.
Dh comes back with face lilke thunder.
Whats the matter? I ask
The bastard won't let me use the phone!
I said" What?why?"
He just said"you can't rely on me all night!" and dh said "Please mate,I've got 3 young kids who need to get home to bed,we have no other way of contacting help"
And this guy just went"Nah!"?????????
Can you believe that? I was so shocked. And then him and his wife sstood in the window and watched us! They had been doing that for ages, but it seemed all the worse now.
Luckily the AA guy turned up and said been a mix up,apologised profusely and was genuinly sorry for us.
While he was fixing the car,I marched over to Motel (baby on hip) and rang the intercom.
"Yes?"he said
"Hello,I am part of the family that have been stranded opposite your motel for the last 4 hours. I just want to thank you ever so much for your kindness and generosity"
"That's alright ,my dear" he said!!
"I am OF COURSE being sarcastic!" I replied, you have not helped us at all?!"
" I helped your husband for 30 mins my dear" (dh was in and out in 10 mins and he said all guy did was throw yellow pages at him and then he dialled the number dh read out)
"Why would'nt you help us and let us use the phone?"
"Your husband lied!he said he'd pay and he didn't pay me a penny!"
IT WAS A FUCKING FREE PHONE NUMBER!!

Anyway,I said he was a horrible human being and walked off.
He came to the balcony and started swearing and shouting abuse at me.
I was bloody fuming! How can you watch a family struggle like that for 4 hours and refuse to help them?? Bastard.
So,if you're ever in Mount Mangurui,do not stay at Ocean Wave Motel, 30 Marine Parade!!
I looked at trip advisor when I got back and guess what the only comments were? That the owners were rude and unhelpful and the place was minging!

Anyway, their nastiness was forgotten today, when people came to the motel with pots, pans cutlery,bedding...and a bed is being deliverd by trailer (from my dr!) to the new house tomorrow!
Also met my mnner, and she was very lovely and helpful and kind!

What a nightmare. Just as well most people here aren't so rude and unhelpful. We often go to the Mount and will definitely avoid that place like the plague. If I were you, I'd leave some feedback on Trip advisor too!

Well done justabout - having your own place should help a bit with settling in. I'm not a fan of renting although that's what we'll be doing for sometime.

We had our xrays done Friday -£90 for a minute!! (EACH). medicals are going to be best part of £700 - not cheap at all.

The saga of my mother's move to the Wairapa continues. Her dh went out October before his visa expired- at 57 now it was use it or lose it. She was set to go in November (cat dispatched again on plane) and then she called him back - mini breakdown apparently as couldn't rent uk house. So they discover they could use another letting agent ( no shit!) and found tenants - move all back on set for this weekend. They head to my grans as a stop off on way to heathrow. Mum has dispute with gran (apparently gran pulls guilt trip but who knows as I never get the full story from mum) and on the way to heathrow they turn back and head for Devon of all places as her husband can pick up contract work there. Fraught calls from my gran trying to find my mum yesterday pm to tell her to get on plane but too late now. I honestly give up- I actually dint care if she goes or not- so bored of the total indecisiveness. Can't believe how immature she is being and she's 62!!!

Sorry - rant over....

Just like my mum when she went the first time. Bought and sold a house there in 6 weeks!!! My gran called - she's apparently made it up with my mum and so my mum may go now. I think in tge last 2.5 years she's probably wasted best part of £30k (which she doesn't have) on going backwards and forwards.

thelittlestkiwi · 12/12/2011 19:22

That must be so frustrating lollystix. The poor cat. I felt guilty flying ours out and it was very, very expensive. She settled well though and is purring next to me.

She tells me she did. She's just called now - move all back on and she was very sheepish after all the high drama yesterday. She actually lost a cat in the first emigration as the vet said it was too sick to make the flight so it was rehomed.
