You need a virtual personal network (VPN) which will set you back around a fiver a month.

kippersandjam · 11/09/2011 18:28

sounds great, thank you! what is that and how do i get one? sorry am clueless, is there a website or do i get it from an electric shop?

just google something like "watch UK tv abroad" and you'll get some links that come up. It's a VPN which you then logon onto which cloaks your location pretending you are in the UK. You can then watch anything on Iplayer, itvplayer, C4OD etc. Once you are finished you just log off.

Portofino · 12/09/2011 09:40

We have this one.

Missymoomum · 13/09/2011 03:35

We have one as we're in China. Absolute lifesaver for me as i can get on to Facebook which is blocked over here as well as watch the BBC etc. Since arriving here a year ago we've watched The Apprentice, Doctor Who, Dragons Den and are currently enjoying the new series of the X Factor!! We pay an annual fee for ours but you can also download some a freebie one.

savoycabbage · 13/09/2011 04:10

We have a VPN too and I can get iplayer and ITV on my ipad and plug that into the TV.

I am watching "Appropriate Adult" about Fred West right now!

Where are you in the Middle East? If Oman VPN are illegal so not quite so simple, still possible though.

redexpat · 18/09/2011 00:01

Hey I'm in Denmark and my DH signed us up to AD telly browser which gets british and american channels. Very muc hlooking forward to Downton Abbey tomorrow night!

timetomoveon · 18/09/2011 19:40

We're in E Europe and have started using filmon.com - it costs 15 euros a month but you get to watch all UK channels. You can record programmes to watch later as well or watch them at the same time as if you are in UK.

EmmaNicole · 19/09/2011 19:13

@timetomoveon - can you watch football matches on filmon.com? (not for me - for my DH!) only we looked at proxy tv (same sort of thing) but the football matched are blocked. Thx

wordsonapage · 20/09/2011 05:28

You probably won't be able to download VPN in the ME (i'm in dubai and its blocked here)I had to set mine up back in England.

timetomoveon · 24/09/2011 17:48

@EmmaNicole - sorry for the late reply. Don't know as there haven't been any on yet that he wanted to watch do will let you know when there's one on!

EmmaNicole · 26/09/2011 08:33

Yeh! Subscribed to filmon.com last night and watched X Factor and Downtown Abbey!! DH watched Match of the day - very happy!! Thx for the tip timetomoveon.

Thumbwitch · 02/10/2011 03:53

try this one - it's free. It's also only really usable for watching tv, as it is a security thing - so best not to use it for things like MN or FB or pretty much anything else - but you can easily turn it on and off. I love it!

Hi Portofino and others, do you have a shared IP or a dedicated one? I just wonder if a shared account is a bit dodgy with regards to security, and whether there's always sufficient bandwidth or whatever.

acatcalledbob · 05/10/2011 01:10

I've paid for and downloaded filmon but can't get it to record. I check the "record"box next to the program on the software but nothing happens. I've contacted filmon but they're not responding - can anyone help? I can watch direct through their website but I'm 7 hours ahead of the UK....

EmmaNicole · 05/10/2011 07:50

acatcalledbob...yeh we tried to record something but it didn't work...we haven't investigated any further as we are only 1 hour ahead. I'm really enjoying having it to watch...Great British Bake Off last night! BUT it's not a very good bit of software and we find it can be tempramental at times. But wouldn't be without it now.

acatcalledbob · 05/10/2011 10:15

Hmm, I'll give them another day to get back to me, then I'm back to www.uknova.com.

timetomoveon · 09/10/2011 15:33

acatcalledbob - we've found when we want to record something we have to have the laptop on with filmon on at the time we want to record. (I hope that makes sense.)

stillrunning · 13/10/2011 15:39

We're in the Netherlands. We have a UK proxy server which costs us £10 per month and is soooo worth it! Grin It has restored my sanity. It is VPN and is great.

FrauHolle · 21/10/2011 14:42

Do you have an ipda or iphone? Try ths app FilmOn TV, it's free and we love it!!

FrauHolle · 21/10/2011 14:42

sasha08 · 23/10/2011 20:27

Putrifyno · 23/10/2011 20:55
