DH and I have been casually chatting about the possibility of a move from London to San Francisco, where his company's head office is based. This has turned into something much more real today and now I am panicking!

Have any of you made this move? How did it work out? Were people friendly? Any tips?

From the little bit of research I've done it looks like spouses of people on working visas can't work. Does anyone know if this is always the case? Are there any work arounds? I'm going back to work next week and had begun to look forward to it!

DD will be 3 and DS 1. Do people generally use nurseries or child minders? Anyone got any info on how it compares to the UK?

Cheers!

I'm really sorry -I can't find the link again- I've spent ages on the site today, sorry. I had it saved as a bookmark late last year then deleted it in disgust as it wasn't helpful to have it there, reminding me.

I think this is relatively new - 2009? It may well have changed again...But its probably best if you investigate thoroughly through the proper channels. I find those websites connected to immigration but not "official" can be a bit misleading, as the only give partial info.

will you get liaison people via your DP - who can help with this sort of thing, locals on the ground as it were?

I've got DH on the case now, hes going to find out - I'll update when I find out.

Will be a bit peed off if I find out I definitely can't work...
