admylin · 26/11/2010 09:13

Yes, good luck bananas!

Have you all sorted the adventkalender out for the dc? What have you got or made? I'm going to have to make one, dd absoloutly wants one, ds isn't fussed however dd doesn't like chocolate much and they only have chocolate filled ones left in the shops. Have to get my string and pegs out now and make her one!

Had a dusting of snow again but it's gone already, phew.

bananasananas · 26/11/2010 09:25

vielen Dank! at 13.00 for about 4 hours- HILFE!

attempt at longer message...every year I mean to make one, and then end up buying one. Got chocolate ones this year..I can be a bit of an anti-sugar freak at times so will need to let go of that obsession. Good for you for making one admylin!

LinzerTorte · 26/11/2010 09:27

DD2 and DS will be having Playmobil Advent calendars and we've got a Lego one for DD1. I will be wandering round the house, tripping over Lego and muttering about being perfectly happy with an Advent calendar with pictures when I was a child, but it's too late now - they've had Playmobil calendars for the last couple of years and would be disappointed with anything less. I wish we'd never started, but blame it all on DH - Lego and Playmobil have taken over our house, and I'm not happy. Guess what's he's bought them for Christmas?

Will be keeping my fingers crossed for you this afternoon, bananas!

I will join you in anti-sugar freakery. I don't actually mind chocolate too much but hate sweets with an out-of-all-proportion passion. I've just found a sweet under DD2's pillow (one of the ones that DH brought them back from Berlin; he KNOWS I don't like them having sweets), which went straight in the bin - they have been banned from keeping sweets in their bedrooms ever since the DDs' room was invaded by ants a couple of years back.

admylin · 26/11/2010 09:32

Aw, playmobil is great though, so is lego. My dc play with the lego that I had as a child and it's still going strong so they can pas sit on too - who knows!

Dd's friend collects playmobil and has the farm stuff, some sort of house and loads of bits and bobs. We used to keep it in big plastic drawers so they could shovel it all up with a dustpan when they had finished playing. The worst part is when a piece gets lost and the set isn't complete anymore.

Actually I like a home made one because I put 25 days on it, the German ones only have 24!

LinzerTorte · 26/11/2010 09:34

Hi Cinders, think I may need to follow your example and step away from the computer if I want to get anything done this morning.

Send your DS to a HTL (he's a bit young, I know...) - DH is always complaining about how he had to go to school on Saturday mornings and until 6 pm during the week. It's either one extreme or the other!

admylin · 26/11/2010 09:36

Know what you mean about sweets. Dd is an addict but ds isn't bothered. He'll get a bag of sweets and keep them until they have dust on the bag or get stuck together but dd's sweets never last.

I've started a trial thing. She gets her weeks worth of sweets and then gets little bags (those breakfast bags) and puts a few sweets in each bag so she has one bag a day. It's good because she'd otherwise eat a whole packet of sweets and now she has them split up so maximum half a packet a day.

LinzerTorte · 26/11/2010 09:38

They only have 24 days on UK Advent calendars too though, don't they? At least they did when I was a child; I remember feeling quite cheated because there was no 25.

Playmobil and Lego are great in moderation, the key word being moderation. To be fair, the DC do play really well with it and things have improved since it has all been banished moved to the cellar. The problem with having so much of it is that the DC can never find the piece they're looking for, so empty absolutely everything out all over the floor. I did try organising it all into the original boxes once; it took hours, but somehow ended up all mixed again within a couple of weeks. So I've given up on that idea.

LinzerTorte · 26/11/2010 09:42

Are your DD's teeth OK, admylin? I've told DH that if any of the DC have to have fillings, he's going to have to take them to the dentist! My dad has real problems with his teeth from eating so many sweets, esp. lollipops (my real bugbear), as a child so my brother and I were never allowed sweets and I've never acquired a taste for them. Despite the fact that I never buy the DC sweets, they seem to eat them on a daily basis - I'm convinced they're going to need fillings at some point, but am probably just overreacting!
