Who else is suddenly sat in a very quiet house?

At least it's only half day today, I have to pick them up at midday.

So day two, and having said yesterday that I never know what's happening I turned up to find that there was a parents meeting about to happen. I appear to have been voted onto some kind of PTA but my language skills deserted me and I couldn't fully follow the discussion so I've got no idea what I'm meant to be doing!

Portofino · 02/09/2010 20:15

lol about being voted into the PTA!

Natation, we love Kessel-Lo too! How come you haven't joined our little Belgian MNetters list? We are all lovely! You could of course prefer to stay fully anonymous....

Portofino · 02/09/2010 20:17

And while I am here, what the feck is a farde a glissiers? I have tried 2 separate things and they are both wrong! Dd drew me a picture but I swear I have never seen such an item for sale....

One of these, usually plastic and see-through at the front, holds hole-punched paper together like a cover for some inmportant work.

Portofino · 02/09/2010 21:13

But apparently not! I sent one of those to school today and it is still wrong! DD said it is like 2 of those slip in plastic things joined together.....I have told her to "borrow" one tomorrow so I can see what the teacher is talking about....

Portofino · 02/09/2010 21:15

Dd could be lying of course! Grin Why are the teachers so inaccessible in this country?

natation · 02/09/2010 21:28

Funny that, asked the very same thing a few weeks ago to my friend when doing the materials list for this year´s rentrée, she replied it was what is in that photo!!! She should know, she´s an instit. Ok maybe it means something different to different teachers, that would not surprise me.

belgo · 03/09/2010 10:15

Porto -Even if you don't send it in with her, they can't make you buy it, in fact they can't force you to buy anything she needs for school. All costs are voluntary for the parents, but they won't tell you this of course.

In my dd's school they haven't even asked us to buy anything apart from a t-shirt and shorts for gym, and even that was clearly voluntary - they know in the area there will be many people who don't understand the list in the first place and who won't be able to afford it.

Kessel Lo is lovely, I haven't been there this year yet because of the rainy august.

And I've never swum there because any day it's hot enough to swim there is a ridiculously long queue and it's just impossible to get into. I just stick to the Sportoase with my children.

Went to Kessel-Lo 3 times so far this year, the first 2 times it started to rain immediately and we got the pool to ourselves, it was still warm, just had to stay under the water to avoid the rain drops.

Anyway, hope everyone has a great weekend, last child starts school again on Monday, me too, so it will be quiet in the house, because no-one is there!!!!

WomanAtTheWell · 03/09/2010 21:45

Well hope your first week back went well everyone. When I collected DD1 this afternoon they told me there's no school on Monday because the teachers have to go to get their medical certificates! It's not like they've had three months of holiday to do it Hmm
