Returning to UK - Gloucestershire

A bit back to front this one...we're coming back to the UK after 3yrs in Germany . Can anyone recommend nice areas to live in Gloucestershire? Dh's work will be near Gloucester so we're looking at areas west of there. Need a good primary school as dd will be 4 in December. I have no idea where to start looking!

Don't know about the areas west of Gloucester but south is also very nice. I have friends in places like Minchinhampton (v good primary school) who commute to Gloucester - half an hour or so. Very pretty in that neck of the woods as on verge of Cotswolds.

How about Cheltenham or just outside, like Shurdington/Churchdown. Those areas are close to Gloucester and I think have good local primary schools. Also near enough to Cheltenham which is a good shopping and cultural town.
