LGBT Mums Moving to Manchester!

Hi there!!

My partner and I are moving to Manchester, but aren’t sure where to move to. We don’t want our children to stick out for being the only child with two same sex parents !!

We want somewhere we can cycle, safe, some nice cars and cafes and good transport links. We want our children to roam free and have a very outdoorsy upbringing. We might be asking for too much for all of this to be combined - but you can hope.

We are looking at Chorlton (top top of our price range), west Didsbury, Heaton moor / Mersey or Marple.

Does anyone have any advice of which one we should move to? We’ve spent a lot of time in chorlton with friends but know we wouldn’t be able to afford a big house if we lived there but know it’s very edgy. Bit stuck - any advice is great :)

Chorlton yes, or most places in south Manchester, Stockport, even into Cheshire. No-one will bat an eyelid. Not very outdoorsy though.

Rural Cheshire is very welcoming. I smile at the rainbow flag alternating with a Lambrys flag on a very nice rural Sandbach bungalow. And we have a lovely cafe in Middlewich run by the funniest lesbian couple who are very good at marketing on FB. I hope that their ability to be out and proud indicates how things have changed.

You are going to love living in Manchester! There's loads for families to do.

A bit further out from Manchester (west yorkshire) but Hebden Bridge has a thriving LGBTQ community.

I've worked many times with a brilliant charity in Greater Manchester called Proud2B Parents. Great for meeting other families. They have a WhatsApp group so they could probably give you some pointers.
