just a general question really!
my ds2 was just 14 when he came out and i wonder if many young teens feel comfortable enough with their sexuality to come out so young?

dp came out (I think) when she was about 13.

I started thinking about it when I was about 19 and took me a while longer to 'come out' - early 20's.

thanks dotty, when you say you started thinking about it at 19, do you mean you had no gay tendencies before that or that you started thinking about coming out?

My cousin was 19 & had left home for university when he came out to his family. His friends all knew before that though.

I think it's easier for young people to come out as they are far more open about sex than previous generations. Whether it's easier for them to live openly gay lives I don't know.

Do you think young lesbians and gay men have differing experiences?

Most of the young gay people of my family/acquantance lead quite seperate lives from their parents, in that there's not as much bringing the bf/gf home as with their hettie siblings.

I do know that
a) if the camp guys at local college had minced about at my school...well..it just would not have happened. It was all Larry Grayson, Frankie Howard and Mr Humphries though, so I don't blame them for staying in the mining village closet!! The straight guys are just as 'mincey', mind, I blame Gavin Hewson!!

b) I do wish they weren't as open about sex, they talk about things on the bus that I would struggle to discuss with DP!! That's all YP not just the gay ones!!

earthy, did you watch jim davidson on hells kitchen?
i think hes a prime example of why men and women couldnt be so open and honest about their sexuality 10,20 years ago! utter bigoted prat!

ds2 hasnt got to the stage of having a b/f yet but im confident that he feels he will be able to bring him home to meet the family (gog help him!!) just as ds1 did with his g/f.
"Larry Grayson, Frankie Howard and Mr Humphries" hehehehehehe! prime examples!!

smeeinit - not sure! I think I probably had, but didn't choose to acknowledge them much before I was 19-ish. I'm horribly bi-sexual anyway, so once I'd come out, I then took a while to be comfortable with the fact that I still fancied men as well. It doesn't half shock people who don't know me so well when I phooarrr over some bloke..!

It's about being confident with who you are I suppose - took me until my 30's!!

horribly bi-sexual dotty!!! hahaha!
