Hi we are a lesbian couple from Northern Ireland been together just over 2 years. We are hoping to start our family soon with a via a fertility clinic and was wondering if there is any other couples in the same stage as us to share this scary journey with...........

hello. we live in surrey and are about to start stimulated iui next month in london. there's been quite a lot to sort, and quite a lot to spend! so now we're really looking forward to starting. fingers crossed it works!

i'd highly recommend an hsg upfront. we're using the lister.

We are having IVF treatment at the moment. Mid way through injections and I am going to share some of my eggs with another couple. Apart from feeling very sleepy- so far so good symptom wise.

We have also tried AI at home without success, which we later found out was due to having PCOS even though I don't have any of the usual symptoms. Hence deciding our next attempts would be IVF.

This is something me and my gf are hoping to do ourselves soon.

Can I ask, does/did anyone else have concerns about the sperm donor potentially having legal contact with your child when they're 18? This is something I struggle with, but then at the same time, I'd struggle keeping that kind of information from my child, as I believe it's so important to know where you come from. So I guess you could say, I'm a little at war with myself. I guess that's why we're not yet officially going down that road, because we both need to be 100% about going ahead with this.

I already have a 6 year old DD, but my gf would love a child of our own, as would I. She's brilliant with my DD and she would make an amazing mum.

Oreoaddict... Are you and your partner civil partnered? If so the law is very simple- any child you conceive via donor sperm though Artificial insemination won't have a legal father- yours and your partner will automatically be named on the birth certificate.

If not then it can be abit of a grey area.... I think. However when my partner and I were trying to conceive at home with donor sperm, the donors we spoke to absolutely didn't want any contact what so ever... Some do... So "contact" is definitely a conversation to have....

We got our donor through FSDW website but Prideangel is also good.

Another option for you... (Which I have just gone through) is IVF... If you were to share your eggs with another couple then you get your treatment for almost free. Most expensive thing was the sperm as it has to be sourced from a sperm bank in America or Europe (unless you go with London women's clinic as they have their own sperm bank). We went to CRM London- which I would recommend.

Does seem an extreme option but actually it wasn't too bad and was great that we didn't have to deal with a donor direct and we don't have to worry about any guy knocking on our door wanting to be "daddy". Saying that it is the law that every child has the right to find out and contact the donor once they are 18 and the donor can only donate if they agree to this.
