OMG! LIFESTYLE? A lifestyle is about how you choose to spend your leisure time not who you sleep with! (Female married to a bloke here. I didn't choose that it is who I am.)

Bossybritches22 · 27/01/2012 19:18

Thank you Wolfie ...I dare not think of the psychological damage these bigots are doing to those confused by their sexuality.

Wolfiefan · 27/01/2012 19:28

Disgust is not too strong. I am a teacher and have still heard gay used as an insult. Seriously? Even my 8 yr old DS and I have had the talk
"yes some men/women love men/women"
" and?"
"Well that's all really. It's just how we are made."
"oh"
I love it when kids just accept something like this that some adults seem to struggle with! Here's to an accepting future Wine

Bossybritches22 · 27/01/2012 19:29

Wine amen to that Wolfie!

Shock

My neighbour is a lesbian couple with her teenage daughters. Directly opposite me is a married lesbian couple with their twin sons and other children. My DSs at 5 and 3 dont blink an eye - some men love men, some girls love girls. They just see a happy family unit and thats that. (Though they dont have the "norm" either, DS2 plays families at nursery as 1 mummy and 2 brothers and 1 cat......)

I cant believe in this day and age people still think homosexuality can be "cured" Sad

ninjasquirrel · 27/01/2012 20:53

Oh dear, just clicked on the link. "The lepers amongst us."

Oh fuck off back to the middle ages.

MamaChocoholic · 27/01/2012 21:48

Homophobia is still acceptable in many ways. DP has to work with someone who thinks she could be cured. Don't know how she does it, and he'll probably be worse than ever after this.

OP is that where it's being held? May drop them a line.

Bossybritches22 · 27/01/2012 22:50

Please do mamachoc

a handout from the conference

I really think this could be reported as a homophobic crime, I'll have to check. The news broke at about 9am this morning and has gone viral on twitter & FB.

OP posts:
Bossybritches22 · 27/01/2012 22:53

That handout was from an event last week but is the same one they use on their "roadshow"

'a malignancy'? FFS. Angry

Bossybritches22 · 28/01/2012 09:24

smokinaces lets hope that our children's generation can help with showing these bigots they are abhorrent to civilised humans. I object to them calling themselves christians.

Yes mamachoc that is how they see it. Can you imagine some poor teenager (or anyone) who is struggling with their sexual identity being dragged along by bible bashing friends and relatives to be "cured" and being told that? Sad

I had hoped to get more response than this from MN as I know many would be equally disgusted, do you think if I reposted in another section (AIBU?) it would get noticed? I'd like to get loads of protest letters sent. I guess it's a section that gets hidden.

Happy clappies or Praise the Lords? Nutters. You'd think. They wouild have some real work to do. End war, poverty, child abuse, bigotry... Oh hang on...

kreecherlivesupstairs · 28/01/2012 09:40

Bloody hell, I've just come across this thread in active convos.
Count me in for letter writing, can't do anything on FB since I don't have it.
I am horrified at the idea of a gay person being cured.

Dalrymps · 28/01/2012 09:51

Bossybritches22 · 28/01/2012 09:55

Well they're one of the US's nastier exports, just don't know how they slipped under the radar, surely this constitutes discrimination or incitment to riot or something, I'm seething and feeling so Angry I want to Do Something.

Hoping one of our legal or police posters will see this thread and advise.

PoppadumPreach · 28/01/2012 10:27

suspect there is more chance of "curing" a gay person than curing them of being ignorant, self-righteous twats.

notfluffyatall · 28/01/2012 10:28

There's what happens when you give churches any credence at all. Where does the line get drawn? Are they really any worse than The Salvation Army's line on homosexuality which says effectively that homosexuals are fine as long as they don't have sex? And let's face it, churches still have a 'right' granted by law to not marry hay couples.

So this bunch are a bit more radical, all of them are blatant in their distaste.

notfluffyatall · 28/01/2012 10:29

Gay couples, bloody iPhone Wink

Bossybritches22 · 28/01/2012 10:34

notfluffy

But the Sally Army don't regard us as lepers and malignancies!! And they don't promote conversion which is the REALLY scary part, it is so damaging psychologically.

This bunch are evil texan bible thumpers who come over here to promote their bigoted vitriol and stir up the British ignoramuses who think this way.

Yes I am frothing! Grin

OP posts:
notfluffyatall · 28/01/2012 10:39

They're fine with you as long as you don't have sex. They've not outlined what their opinion is if you do but you're definitely a sinner. They're just as bad, and by them being allowed their bigotry enables this crowd to spout their slightly more offensive bigotry.

Do you really just accept the churches views because they're so longstanding? Surely it doesn't make them any less culpable? I'm not even gay and I find it hugely offensive.

ProPerformer · 28/01/2012 10:40

I'm married to a man, but am openly bi-sexual and have never had a problem with it. I am also very open about this with the kids I work with at high school, particularly when they use gay as an insult. Once I had a kid I was working with talking about gay people saying she 'hates them all and they are so weird and if ever found out a friend was gay she'd not talk to them again.'
I promptly got up and moved to another child in the class. When asked by original kid why I simply stated that 'as I'm bi-sexual and therefore gay I assumed she would not want my help!'. She started making puking noises but did seem a little embarrassed!

I have got in trouble from a few staff members who are uncomfortable with my openness (You are married to a man so why say you like women to the kids) but I am now the 'mother figure for loads of gay students who are struggling. I had one ex-student and her GF, who she was with at school thanks to me giving them 'the push' say if they ever got married I would be invited.

My son has no problem with same sex relationships at all - we have LOADS of gay friends and one if them is even his honorary 'auntie'! :)

wahwahwah · 28/01/2012 10:47

I wonder if anyone actually ever does turn up of their own free will to be 'cured'. Do these people really have nothing better to do? Is this the lot who stand outside military funerals and shout that the deceased is going to hell? Sorry but I can't link - blackberry messing me about.

notfluffyatall · 28/01/2012 10:58

You can bet there absolutely is a line of people waiting to be cured. People who either believe themselves or have been made to feel by their parents that this group are absolutely spot on.

No, it's not the Westboro Baptists, it's just another bunch of bigoted cunts with Jesus on their side.
