Hi
My son is 16 years old, and he came out as gay a couple of months ago.

He wants to buy an item online, but says he is not old enough and could I get it.
It is a dildo. I said no because he is not 18 and is upstairs sulking.

I have looked online but all I can find is parents who buy their teenage girls these items and people say it's ok, but can't find any advice on gay sons.

Am a being unreasonable? should I buy him one? Maybe there is a law about it I am not aware of? I don't know!

Your 16yo son wants you to buy him a sex toy. Sounds plausible. Not.

And if it is true why would you even consider doing that?

If He existed, this son, would he not have pocket money? My kids were buying things online from about thirteen.

Why do you feel unsure about buying it for him?

Eviebeans · 06/07/2025 15:59

For me it sounds like a strange new world where parents are buying these items for their teen girls.

Gem2J · 06/07/2025 16:01

Ok thanks' for your advise, not here to discuss if this son exists or not because that's irrelevant.
And it didn't happen like that but to tell you the whole story of how this has come about i would have to write an essay, this is just a shortened down version.

I always do what's right by my sons, regardless of how I feel about a situation, but sometimes I don't know what's right - as no handbook on life!

Yeah it's strange how parents are buying their teenagers such stuff, but I looked on various websites and you have to be 18 to buy one.

Yet it is legal to be intimate with someone when you are 16.

I wish these online websites would drop the age restrictions to 16, because as a parent I do not want to know what toys my kids are buying, so would prevent such situations occurring.

It's not like we live in a great place either as we live in a small town, none of us drive and don't ride busses (can't be bothered) In this town you have to go online just to purchase basic things like a pair of shoes.
