I don't know where to start, DD2 said years ago she is same sex, no issues what so ever, however she has been hospitalised for anorexia. I've dealt with that for the last 2 years. Older child has announced they are trans, fine. They also have autism, which has been challenging to say the least. I have been in regular contact with CAMHS for over 10 years. I think I have finally reached the end of my tether. Help?! I'm failing my kids right now but I've run out of options

I had no idea this bit of MN existed, I've been a member since DC was a bump, so 16 years, I'm not a troll, just desperate for some wise words and help

I am sorry you are facing challenges. It sounds like you are — and have been — doing a lot to support your children. Why do you feel like you are now “failing”? Are there any family members or friend who can provide practical help?

I am sorry this is so hard for you.

I think it is helpful to break down the issues and focus on them separately if you can. But most importantly, to focus on yourself as well.

One of my children is very ill, physically and mentally, autistic and also trans. In the past he has been suicidal. It has taken it's toll on me a bit and I have a few health issues and am overweight.

I was eating to make myself feel better!

Now, I am feeling a bit better.

I am focusing on the things I can help the kids with but also focusing on me a bit too! I am taking antidepressants. However, I am making time for myself, eating much better than I was (losing some weight) and also going to bed at an earlier time (I used to go to bed very late).

Anyway, all I mean is that sometimes you do need to look after yourself.

Totally Agree.
