4 year old is jealous of male babies

I'm really worried about my daughter Emily ,she seems to be jealous of male babies and toddlers. My friend recently had a little boy and when we were visiting him I offered to change his nappy. Emily came over to me and pointed at his bits and then said "I'm supposed to have that mummy"! She also wants boy clothes and short hair. I have no problem with this at all but it's the jealousy of little boys I'm worried about, she seems really upset that she wasn't born a boy, how can I help her?

Is this a new development, just since she's been around the new baby? Or is it something she's been expressing for a while?

You can help her by not taking it too seriously. It's a phase, it'll pass.

What signs of jealousy has she shown, as you haven't mentioned any?

I can't imagine it's a phase, I don't remember nor does my mother remember me saying I wanted to be a boy or have boys bits!

I don't think it's a normal childhood thing to want to be the opposite sex for a little bit....I was very tomboy when a child however I grew out of that, I however didn't say I wanted to actually be a boy.

What would you do if she told you she wanted to be a unicorn, or a kitten or a lamppost?

My daughter said this consistently from ages two to five. No longer.

Children will say random weird strange stuff.. dont go looking into childhood surgery or anything .. im sure its a phase

One of my dd's was obsessed about boys. She wanted short hair because she saw it didn't get in the way like long hair. Preferred wearing trousers etc, so she could do hand stands and cart wheels without flashing her knickers. How do I know because I asked. When she said she wanted short hair, oh really why? Not made a deal out of it. Just a general question.
She was also obsessed with willies. She asked am i supposed to have. Someone miss heard and convinced she said I'm supposed. Why don't I have one of those?

Normal questions that some ask. She was just being a child who noticed some differences.

She's 20 now. Loves wearing dresses, high heels and make up. Also likes wearing jeans and trainers.

One of my sons used to have tantrums because he wanted to wear heels, make up and have hand bags. He would wear a bit of make up. Had a few handbags. Have his nails painted. Had long hair. Liked dressing up as princesses. Had a doll and buggy that he would take out. Now he's into football, ditched the handbags and dresses.

Just phases from children. You can either be daft make a deal of it and turn it into something forbidden. Or just go with it and not make a deal of it.just like you wouldn't if she was wearing pink frilly dresses
