Gender Identity Disorder - help!

Hi there,

This was the closest topic related to a question regarding a child with Gender Identity Disorder. I hope somebody can give me an answer...

Is it possible to pay privately for a sex hormone test for an 11 year old child to see if there is an imbalance of either sex hormone?

Any advice on this subject also welcome!

A test my friend told me about was to hold two conversations in the presence of the child, one about trucks (or diggers) and the other about a recent endorsement of Cheryl Cole's of a new Max Factor mascara applicator.
Whichever conversation interests the child the most will most likely point you in the right direction in so far as their gender (culturally) is concerned.

Orellia - that is a stupid thing of your friend to have said and is NOT a test of trans gender children. I am finding it hard that anyone actually could come up with that rubbish.

Ah, old thread. Well done Orellia. Again.

Orellia, most people I am friends with, and their children, would be disinterested in both those topics. Apart from the under 5s who would all like to see a digger, and one friend who loves beauty products and celebrity gossip and so would enjoy the Cheryl Cole one. What does your friend consider this says about us all?

My MtoF transgender daughter is crazy about cricket and football and played both when she was a boy (in fact, she was really a 'tomboy' but didn't know it at that stage). Trucks and mascara are nothing whatever to do with this very complicated and serious issue, which takes a lot of time, effort and tears to sort out - so that the child can progress in their life and fulfill themselves as the person they really are inside. They need years of therapy to know for themselves who they really are - male or female. My DD didn't have a hormone test. She is happy now and accepted by friends and colleagues and moving ahead with her life. She has turned from a suicidal teen boy to poised, confident young woman. If you want my advice, I think your child may benefit from specialist therapy soon - so that he/she can start sorting this issue out and then make the right decision. It has to come from him/her. I'm not sure that anyone really knows why this happens - I've heard a lot of different things. The most important thing long term is love and support from family and friends. I have spent/wasted years coming to terms with this. It's tough but possible. Hope this helps.XX

Theres no test on this earth to confirm wether or not someone is transgender just leave the child alone!
Ask her/him who she/he wants to identify as then support her/him as much as possible
