since last week we get about 10 calls a day from a debt collection company. they ask to speak to a person with nearly but not quite the same name as dh.
how can i get rid of them? their phone no is suppressed, plugging out phone is not an option...

You need to write to them. If you have the company name you can google their address or post a thread on the moneysavingexpert site in the "debtfreewannabee" section.

The letter should simply state you do not acknowledge the debt as you/your husband are not the person they are trying to contact.
Any further attempts to contact you will be viewed as harassment and dealt with as such.

We have had quite a lot of this as we bought a house that had been repossessed, it is a bit of a nightmare but the letter usually sorts things quickly.

As the name is very similar though, you should really get your husband to check his credit record with experian, equifax and callcredit to make sure there are no inaccuracies there.

Get yourself a digital phone with caller display, and don't answer witheld or international numbers.

Can you contact your telephone supplier and tell them that you are getting nuisance calls from a withheld number and that you need to have a with-held number bar put on your line asap.

NTL used to do this for free, BT may do it too if you are getting harassed.

yes to writing the letter too... good advice itsme.

Can you get Number Blocking from BT

Google the phone number, it may show up as a number from debt collectors who constantly harrass people by phone.
