urgent advice needed re car insuarance and courtesty car

Dh had an accident in the car on wednesday eve. He is fully comp and his insaurance states he can have a hire car if needed.

Car went in today and they say is undrivable till repaired. Thing is we are a family of 6 and are due to go on holiday on monday for the week.

The insaurance company say they will not supply him with a 6 seater as they only have to offer him a standard size car.

The car insaured is a grand scenic. Dh has looked in the contract and it does not mention about size of hire car available.

Are they right to deny us a car big enough for our family or is there anything we can do. Thanx

They don't have to offer you a similar car to the one insured, just a car. Could you ask to pay a supplement to upgrade to a larger hire car ?

they don't have to give you a car of the size you want - just a car.

Agree you can ask to pay to upgrade to a bigger one.

oh ok, thanx , they didn't offer us that option earlier. Just said that if we wanted a bigge car we would have to hire one ourself.
