Neighbour has ripped chunks out of my timber fence

Hi to cut a long story short, I have had a lot of problems with a next door neighbour. Single man in his 40s. Heavy weed smoker, rude, swears at me if I look out of my bedroom window at him and that's only the tip of the iceberg. Police told him about 1 year ago to stop his ASB and it worked like a charm. Out of the blue however (as haven't had any contact of any kind for months) last week or so he ripped off the tops of 2 of my fence panels and big chunks out of the sides so hardly any of the panels are left. Will leave the panels as they are for time being. The thing is, even if I replace the panels, I think he will trash those as well. Unsure how to proceed. Any ideas?

If he's damaged your property, document it with photos and call the police to speak to him again. If he's actually done it, you could press charges for criminal damage and the police could tell him that which might put him back in his box for a while.

Do you know why he has done this? It sounds pretty bleak from your description but what was he trying to achieve?

RumPidgeon · 11/10/2026 11:50

Sorry to hear this - he sounds unhinged (no pun intended). Can you call police and ask for advice? I’d document it as it was and what it’s like now.

Agree with everyone who has said Police

Is he an owner or a tenant, if he is a tenant then get the landlord involved

It's criminal damage, report it as such.

ThirdStorm · 11/10/2026 14:58

Are you sure it was him? I ask because I’ve had the tops ripped off a couple of planks of my fence recently, and after wondering why anybody would do that, I realised it was large birds being too heavy for my brittle fence! 🤣

Thanks. I think he thinks he can get away with it and that's what he's banking on. So I will report it.

Was coming on here to type the same thing! Ours was a mystery as it's not really accessible to anyone then I saw a fat pigeon landing and breaking it.

I'm absolutely certain it was him. The fence was not brittle and the whole tops ripped off plus at side. It's what he does. He's underhanded and petty. Sorry about the chonky birds on yours lol.

definitely him. human handi-work. he also soaks the other half of the fence each and every single morning no matter the day all the way through which makes it smell funky. we've a hosepipe ban but he's used it all the way through. he's just something else.
