Criminal defence lawyer - Guildford, Surrey

I'm looking for a decent criminal defence lawyer in Guildford. A friend's adult son has been charged with an assault . He's 35 with no criminal recordt and he's my friend's carer. He was granted legal aid but his lawyer doesn't seem even faintly interested in his case... I said I'd try to help.

He can only use a legal aid solicitor. He’s not paying and legal aid pays solicitors very little. He can get a list of who takes legal aid cases and approach someone else but choices will be limited.

Expect to pay anywhere from £150+VAT per hour upwards and over depending on location and solicitor experience.

For the record, legal aid solicitors are paid fixed amounts, often as little as 1/8th of normal hourly rates, so they don't put all their effort into keeping in touch when it's not necessary - doesn't mean they aren't interested in their cases. It means they are conserving time spent for the important parts.

@PrawnofthePatriarchy Are you helping by paying or just finding another legal aid solicitor? This person probably won’t go to prison as it’s not GBH.
