Why might family court list a variation hearing 16 weeks away?

Hi all,

So I applied to family court in mid July to vary an already existing order, just had a notice back and they’ve scheduled for November. Anyone have any idea why they would schedule it so far off.. my understanding was the it was between 4-8 weeks ideally but up to 12 in busy areas. Looking at it it is almost 16 weeks from notice to the hearing. My DC is autistic and I was really hoping to get this matter resolved.

To add to this I have an ex that refused to attend mediation, won’t acknowledge DC needs and now not filling in the C7 attachment.

I guess that mid July falls right at the start of the summer holidays and to be honest I find that anything official slows down considerably in the summer. At least you have a date to work towards. Good luck.

That's standard for a Children Act application. In truly urgent cases the court can deal with an emergency situation sooner than that.

Because they have limited availability and hearings are often listed 4 months in advance or longer

Thank you all. That makes sense I didn’t account for the summer period and the last time I applied was pre-covid.
