Exposed to asbestos in the workplace, what next?

I have just found out that an office where I worked about 2 years ago had asbestos in the ceiling.
There was a hole in the ceiling, and my workplace knew there was asbestos there but did nothing about it, and allowed us to continue working in that office without informing us about it
I am so annoyed about this, I look after my health and if I had known at the time I’d have kicked up a fuss.
I still work for the organisation in another role and building.
I only found out from a colleague.
AIBU to take this further !

There are very specific rules about asbestos and personal injury law in the UK OP, I wouldn’t take legal advice from here

I think you're right in speaking to the union initially. A colleague saying that there was asbestos in the ceiling doesn't make it true, Make sure you have the facts first, as you may be worrying unnecessarily.

How did your colleague find out?

I work in a asbestos testing lab so know the building should have a asbestos register (a survey) mainly available to contractors, who work on the building, so no asbestos is disturbed.

Perhaps the Health & Safety Executive website may be useful to you?

Ask for a copy of asbestos register and check facts first. There may have been asbestos in building but not those tiles.

A new estates manager came in and immediately closed the room down and they had to move to another building.
