What happens when someone is accused of child sexual abuse

I'm close to the situation but not part of it is have also made some changes to protect both the victim and the man's son.

Girl a and girls a mum have recently reported child sexual abuse from mums step brother.
Step brother is already on the sex offender register and has served jail time for child sex abuse offences.
Step brother has a wife and a son who is 3. Social Services are aware of his previous offences and son was put on a child protection plan when first born. He has been off child protection for 18 or so month's. He currently still lives in the family home.

What are the police and social services likely to do in this situation?

The wife believes he is innocent including when he served jail time ( before they met )

Well, if reported then the police will be carrying out their investigations assuming he hasn't been charged with a crime yet... and a lot will depend on how this goes. If they have enough evidence, he will be charged and await a future court date, most likely with strict bail/curfew conditions.

Social Services will now be aware and if they have concerns for the child being around him (which I'd like to think they will) then contact may need to be supervised until he is/is not convicted of a crime and off the back of this he will probably have conditions attached to his bail to reside at another address away from child if/when charged. If the mother refuses to engage and safeguard her child and allows child to be alone with him then SS will be more involved and could lead to child removal from their care until resolved given the seriousness of the crime in question and especially his previous convictions.

I'd imagine police will investigate and if theres enough evidence to prosecute they will go ahead and hopefully he'll go back to prison.

I would hope that if the wife doesn't kick him out and safeguard her child that they'll remove her son from her care. Same for the girls mum, she'll have to demonstrate that she is capable of safeguarding her child too. After all she knew her stepbrother had been to prison for child sex offences and is on the register but still allowed him around her child. Yes she's believed her child and rightly reported it but she shouldn't have had her round a sex offender.

I found out my favourite uncle was a nonce, it came out after he assaulted my cousins child. He went to prison, I never spoke to him again. I told my mum my auntie who stayed with him wasn't allowed any information or photographs of my child and if she did she'd be cut off aswel. I wasn't even sad when he died, although I was expected to at least pretend I didn't. That's how you treat child sex offenders in the family, you don't let them near your children.

I should have mentioned that they haven't had contact for years and the report is regarding abuse that was 6ish yrs ago. It was before he went to prison .

Fair enough disregard the bit about the girls mum in light of this information. I hope the girl can get justice and that they are able to prosecute.
