sex offender in my street

this might be a bit premature , in fact I hope with all my heart I am being premature, but I want to be prepared if this happens, my best friend was raped by her father from the age of 8 until her late teens, in her late 30's she had the courage to stand up in a court room and he was convicted to 15 years in prison , he's up for parole at the end of march .After serving 7.5 years
His wife , her mother disowned her and continues to visit him in prison to this day, she still lives in the same house in my street , where I live there are 2 child minders , and people with young kids and as the crow flies in a radius of one mile we have 5 primary schools and 1 comprehensive, the kids from the local comprehensive use my street as the main route to school I'd say maybes 60% of the kids pass my door on a daily basis . I really don't want him back living in this street .
I realise this is premature and he might not get parole but I want to be prepared if he does as to what and I can and can't do . Obviously all the court details are in the public domain and a photograph of him is on the internet as well . I'm thinking about a petition , but where would I take it and really would it do anything my friend still lives in the local area so the thought of her bumping into her or her children horrifies her any advise at all I'd be so grateful for many thanks

I wouldnt do anything until you know hes out and living there.

Then I would post all the information on local FB groups, anonymously and recruit locals for a peaceful protest outside the house.

I really really would not post about it on facebook and organise a protest. That seems a fairly quick route to getting yourself arrested.

Truth is, OP (and I used to work in child protection so feel quite sure in what I say) there will be many many many sex offenders within a very radius from your house. You just don't know about them.

There may be conditions on his release which dictate how close he can be to a school etc so you may find the solution presents itself.

I think you need to take a lead from your friend. She may well not want you to do anything at all! Listen to her, support her.

He will be closely monitored.
I think Schools are made aware of offenders living nearby too.
Keep your kids close.
I live in a small village and there was a man with an offending past who lived here for a while. He was quite pleasant and said hello, everyone knew about his previous conviction but he kept himself to himself and there were never any problems.
It's not nice and puts you on edge, but at least you know this person isn't to be trusted.

If his victim lives in the area i think it would be a completely reasonable condition of his parole that he lives elsewhere.

To the fans of vigilante action and publicity… you will out the woman who’s been raped through her childhood and abandoned by her mother.

There are already pedophiles living on your street. We had two from my village imprisoned in one month last year. Focusing on the ones you recognise makes it safer for the ones you don’t. Don’t trust anyone with your kids. Your neighbour isn’t safe just because he hasn’t been convicted or outed on FB.

I can understand your motive, but think about it - even if a potential protest results in him getting moved, he’ll just go somewhere else - another place where there’s kids. He has to live somewhere. So maybe divert your energy to something more useful.

Absolutely this. Just because you know this guy doesn't mean you are not aware of all the others. Those who have been convicted, this who haven't and those who haven't even come to the attention of police yet. If you safeguard your own child then all is well. Vigilante type stuff is only going to get you into trouble. Get on with your own life and take care of your kids.

This particular one will be subject to monitoring once released and have conditions to abide by.

Yes. Stay out of it. The relevant professionals will be involved and Probation can exclude people from living in or even entering specific areas. Do not start stirring the pot on social media, this is totally unhelpful.

There are times when it's right to get involved and times when it is best left to the professionals - this is one that is best left to the professionals. You'll come across as an attention-seeker if you start stirring up trouble around this, and possibly draw unwelcome attention to the rape victim.

The thing is there are children and primary schools everywhere so that's not a strong argument. What would be a strong argument would be that he is well known in the local community and would himself be at risk being housed there. From a professional perspective I've seen this used as rationale to not allow someone who has committed sexual offences back to the family home.

And that would do nothing other than endanger people and increase the offenders risk.

Also this, your friend can engage with her victim liaison officer we've they will put in place exclusion zones/non contact conditions to allow her to live her life if she is still local, it's wouldn't just have to cover her address but children's school, place of work etc

I wouldn’t do anything except support my friend in whatever way she wanted/needed. It’s horrendous but loads of people will live near sex offenders and have no idea. Safeguard your child (from all risks, not just the man you happen to know about).
I would absolutely not put on fb “this man raped his daughter” - would SHE want that on fb??
