Experience of supervised contact. What is the bar with mental health.

hoping people will share their experiences of asking for supervised contact only.
am going to the family court to ask that my ex has supervised contact only with DD unless he is mentally well/drug free.

his family have cut me off ( i don’t know why- I think they think I have caused his mental illness) so I have no idea how his current MH is so can’t make informed decisions about contact.

he was detained under the mental health act last year. Paranoid/ manic/ delusional. Also arrested for harassment of me.

I suppose I am just wondering how serious things have to be for courts to award supervised only. I read awful stories on here of very abusive men being granted unsupervised access.

I think your response is spot on. Let him go through the proper channels and then see how that plays out. As you've described it will be unlikely he'd get much contact especially if DD isn't keen
