Car repairs paid for my insurance but garage closed down

I was a 3rd party and the other persons insurers paid for my repairs - a year ago. My car went in for a service and they pointed out that the repair wasn't great and said I needed to go back to the repairing garage. I've tried to but the owner retired and sold the business.

Where do I stand as the guarantee can't be claimed against. The insurer has paid for the repairs once - I feel I shouldn't have to pay for the rectification as the bump wasn't my fault but the insurers are saying they won't either as they've already paid.

If the repairing garage is still owned by the same limited company, they are liable for any problems with the repair regardless of any change of ownership. However, as it has been a year it will be up to you to prove that the original repair was not up to scratch.

Just to add, it isn't entirely clear from your posts if the repairing garage is still operating under new ownership of has closed down. However, if the repair is faulty your insurers are jointly liable with the garage, notwithstanding the fact that they've already paid. Again, you will need evidence that the repair was faulty. If you have that, you can go through your insurer's complaints process. If they still refuse to pay, you can take them to court.

What is actually wrong with it? Some repairs aren't great which is why you should push for a main dealer to do the repair.

Honestly is it worth fighting over or can you live with it? If not I would just trade the car in.

The car is on a lease - I took it for service and they pointed out the wing is out of alignment - it's sitting slightly proud which i had not noticed - and also said something about insulation tape present so I really do need it fixed as the lease is up in November

The garage is an entirely different business

At the time this was the only repairer available and was approved by the insurer
