My delightful ex said he's going to claim for a variation in expenses for the travel that he does. His trip is 13 miles round trip Friday 13 miles round trip Monday EOW. Im sure this doesn't equate to £10 a week?

Luckily for me there's only a year left until dc is 18 and leaves education. And only dealt with cms for 2 years thankfully

The CMS don't have a set mileage rate but, if the claimed travel costs appear unreasonable, they use the same advisory fuel rates as HMRC. These rates depend on the fuel and engine size. Even on the highest rate, a total mileage of 26 miles only comes to £6.24.

Thank you. Much appreciated.

Not at 45p per mile it doesn’t.

The highest advisory fuel rate is 24p per mile. See Advisory fuel rates - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk). You are referring to HMRC's business mileage rates, which are a different thing.

Advisory fuel rates

Find out about advisory fuel rates for company car users, when you can use them, and how they're calculated.

Why would they use the company car rates rather than the personal car rates?

I don't know, but they do. At a guess, I would imagine it is because the personal car rates include an allowance for things like insurance, road tax, depreciation and other things that aren't directly related to the mileage covered (which is why the rates drop dramatically after the first 10,000 miles), whereas the company car rates are for fuel only, which is up and away the largest cost you incur in any journey.
