Please correct me if I’m in the wrong thread for this !
hi lovelies , long story short I’ve stopped dds dad from seeing her due to his drug misuse and smoking cannabis around her with his friends and not being able to care for her basic needs.
my solicitor has sent him a letter saying he needs to pass a hair follicle test . But he is the type of boy to try and cheat it . He even once told me he could dye / bleach his hair etc to try and pass it . I’m worried that it’ll come back negative and he’ll continue to do what he’s doing . Social worker said it’s hard to cheat but didn’t get into details ! Any insight welcome 😀

He could send someone in his place to pretend to be him.

Dyeing your hair is the easiest and most common way to cheat.

mrsed1987 · 09/02/2024 18:37

Yes dying your hair can 'water down' the results

My ex suddenly stopped trying to cover his bald patches and shaved his head in order to not have any hair to be sampled. The fact that I hadn't actually decided to request a test entertained me greatly, as he instantly turned from a bog standard bloke in his 40s to somebody with a tanned face and ears with a gleaming, white swimming cap/bowling ball who couldn't convince any more of the 17-21 year olds he was pursuing that he wasn't really young for his age.

stomachameleon · 09/02/2024 18:45

@Ellarose23 that happened to me with a dna test and he was caught. Prat.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 09/02/2024 18:45

He could shave it off but they don’t need hair from the head, any hair will do. But I don’t think they routinely take that route. Surely if he shaved or his hair was bleached that wouldn’t count as a passed test?

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 09/02/2024 18:56

If he shaves his head and body hair to avoid a strand test, that's known as an inference and the court take a very dim view of it.

A court-ordered strand test will be done in person, if he sends someone else in his place it'll be found out soon enough.

Calypsocuckoo · 09/02/2024 18:59

I have never heard of a follicle test but hair strand testing can be hair from anywhere on the body. People who shave all of their head and body hair are presumed to be guilty of what they are accused of!
they can’t send someone else as the tester will ask to see photo ID and also take a photo which gets included on the report

Calypsocuckoo · 09/02/2024 19:01

Hair dye and products can reduce the results but drug use will still show. If it’s for alcohol they can also do a blood test for recent use if hair all shaved off

NeverAloneNeverAgain · 09/02/2024 19:06

He needs to take photo id to the test. A copy of which will be included in the report too so it will be obvious if he's sent someone in his place. They can take hair from other parts such as legs and if he dyes or bleaches it they can request for the ingredients of what has been used. It's more common for people to dye hair as a reason of why they have tested positive in my experience. I've been a SW a long time and been involved with lots of families who have tried to avoid or manipulate results on hair strand tests. I've not seen a successful one yet

The social workers and court will take a dim view if he suddenly dyes his hair or shaves it very short. Has DD had a hair test as drug exposure will show up in her own hair unfortunately.

Ellarose23 · 09/02/2024 23:26

No hair test on my daughter no.
if he fails this test how long do they wait before re testing again ? Would it be after 90 days if that’s how long it can be detected for ?

You can also use fingernail or toenail clippings to test for drugs.
